Harbor Freight — Local services in Middletown

Unbelievable! Wanted to return two items purchased 2 days ago with the receipt. One tool did not function and was unsafe (junk) - the other did not perform as it should. Normally, returns are not questioned - but I had to explain, and it did not feel like a make the customer happy interaction. Worst yet - the Harbor Freight corporate cash register wanted the cashier to scan my driver's license for the return (you know the barcode with all of my personal information) - I DON'T DO THAT- but provided an alternate state Photo ID... the corporate cash register did not like that - and they refused the return. So now I am out close to $100 for stuff that I don't want. So much for Habor Freights satisfaction guaranteed return policy - does not seem to apply in the stores or has changed all together. It all started with asking for my phone number with each purchase - now this - NEVER AGAIN!

To add to this - Harbor Freight uses a third party service - The Retail Equation (TRE) to database your personal information through your State ID barcode. TRE compiles a Consumer Risk Score on you and ultimately authorizes or denies your return to the store. TRE can ban you from returning anything to any participating store like Home Depot and Best Buy - based your Consumer Risk Score - defective or not, you are stuck with your purchase and the store management has no say in it. Worst yet, The Retail Equation company has a BBB score of "F". Would you do business with a company that willingly does business with a company with a BBB...

Felt I needed to revise my review. The store is clean and great selection. I still don't understand their credit card but that could be the bank they use. Joined inside track club and get great deals. It's worth the money to join I have already saved more than I spent on membership!!! Also sign up for emails and texts and get coupons for free tools! Don't hafta buy a thing just go in get free tool and walk out! I can't seem to do that without buying something else though lol. Their not snap on but I'm not full time mechanic either! Pittsburgh tools are good price and lifetime warranty great combo if you ask me. Have things you want and need. Decent prices and very friendly staff. Only weird thing is I have multiple credit cards that are always paid on time and got denied for one from harbor freight??...
