Subject: Complaint Regarding Unpleasant Experience with a Store Employee

Dear Stop & Shop Customer Service, I am writing to express my concern about a very unpleasant experience I had at your store on Aug1 2024 afternoon while using the self-checkout machines. I attempted to use the self-checkout machine, but it was unable to scan my membership card. I then decided to switch to another machine to complete my purchase. However, every time I encountered this issue and required assistance from your staff, I noticed that they appeared reluctant to help. Additionally, when I thanked them for their help, they often ignored me.

During this visit, a staff member approached me and asked if I had switched machines. When I confirmed that I had, he became visibly angry and informed me that I should not have done so, as he could lose his job because of it. I found his manner of speaking to be highly inappropriate for dealing with a customer. Despite my apology, he continued to berate me, his demeanor becoming increasingly agitated to the point where he appeared extremely hostile. As I was leaving the store, he even called me "stupid." I think it may have been an act of hate or maybe him being racist as i am of asian heritage and don’t speak well english.

I believe that this type of behavior is unacceptable for any employee, especially one who is directly interacting with customers. While I do not know his name, he is a white balding man with a higher voice.

The Middletown RI stop n Shop has really gone down hill. Advertised sale items aren’t in stock, the staff has an attitude that is take it or leave it! I left today without buying a single item because they didn’t have the most important part of the holiday meal, the meat advertised on sale. They did have a substitute at 5 times the sale price…..Not Acceptable! Shop Shaws or Aldi! Even Aldi is better than this Shop n Shop! See pic for the same the second day, Same as the first day (select the photo to see the entire empty cooler case)! Note no bottom to the cooler. Sadly this the state of stop n shop, empty shelves and false promises borderlines bait (sale on corned beef @ 1.99 a pound ) and switch for 8.50 a pound corned beef. There should be a law!

This store in Middletown, and I’m afraid all stop n shop stores, are in real bad shape… products, presentation, customer support, product availability, reliability, and leadership are really really bad! You can’t apologize your way out of...

This place continues to go downhill and overcharge for basic goods. The staff are Extremely rude and unhelpful for basic questions. I am heavy encouraged to do my shopping ALL at Aldi. They have replaced most cashiers with automated systems that glitch. DONT USE THE SELF CHECKOUT! If you put fork/chopsticks kit in your bag that come free with your sushi or premade food BEWARE THE SYSTEM WILL ACCUSE YOU OF STEALING AND SHAME YOU FOR IT. explaining to the cashier who has to watch the footage (in front of you like a CRIME CAM) in order for you to be excused is ridiculous and embarrassing. (I was found in Good standing thankfully) This is a shameful system to put people through making honest ppl feel like they are doing something wrong.

All and all I cannot see a single reason why we would want to shop here with so many frequent deterrents other than it’s slightly closer to pick up some things then the other market. Everyone here constantly looks at the shoppers like we shouldn’t be shopping here. #Shameful #overpriced #rude #avoid...
