My family was going through serious illness with RSV; pneumonia; Diabetic 2 and with the flu. The night time ER check in person (Laura), was extremely rude, sarcastic, nasty and unprofessional to us. My husband was throwing up and couldn't breathe; and we waited in the ER 2-3 hours. My husband went up in his wheelchair and asked politely Do you know how much longer it may be? She (Laura) snapped at him and said No not really! She went back to watching a movie on the computer while she was working. She looked away and ignored him. We continually saw people going back ahead of us with minor needs. My husband had a heart attack in the past year, and was trying to pass out in his wheelchair. We waited another 2-3 hours. My husband went up again and asked Is there any possibility that we could have been skipped over? Because Laura had to do a roll call in the ER of all the patients. She said what's your name? She said Are you still sitting here? Then, NO! we haven't skipped you!!! (Very nasty attitude!) She turned away from my husband and continued to watch her movie; and even turned it up. She glared at my husband. My husband said to me, I give up, let's go home. I said No, you are sick and they are supposed to help you. I asked her if I could speak with her manager? She said her manager was not there. I said well do you have somebody that's over the department I can speak to? She refused to help me. The triage nurse came out (Amanda) I asked her if I could speak with someone about the attitude of the check-in person. She said yes. I will send someone out to speak with you. I said that would be just fine! So I took my husband, son and myself and we stood in front of security desk and quietly waited for a nurse manager (Wendy) to come out and speak with us. Wendy introduced herself. I asked if there was a place we could speak privately? She said Yes. We told her our situation with Laura. She told us that there was no excuse for Laura to act that way. She apologized for Laura's behavior. Especially, her watching movies on the computer while she's supposed to be working. I told Wendy that I had just got out of the hospital from the same illnesses. I literally turned around the same day I got out; and my husband checked in. Wendy said she would take this information and turn it into Laura's boss.Wendy asked us to remain in the triage office. She said it would only take a second to go clear a room for my husband. My husband was almost unconscious, sick and running fever. Amanda the nurse that triaged us led us to the room and gave my husband a gown, and a blanket. She was now going to hand us off to a nurse named (Sunnie). So (Sunnie) came in and began taking blood and starting an IV on my husband. My husband was almost totally unconscious. Sunnie would ask my husband questions. But he was mostly unable to speak. So, I, as his wife tried to help and answer her questions. She ignored me. So I just let her go ahead and work on my husband. She asked my husband about his different conditions. I asked her if she recognized my husband as a co-worker? She said no really I don't, so I guess that makes that pretty much unimportant to me; and I couldn't care less. I told her that my husband was Type 2 diabetic. She replied to me I'm not sure how that matters to me; but it's good to know! I mentioned to her courteously, I'm sorry to be any trouble; but thank you so much for your help. I noticed that my son's mask was ripped and he asked me if he could get another one? (He is autistic) There was not any in the room. We asked Sunnie for one. She said She would bring one back to my son. She did not. I noticed my mask was ripped too. Plus, my son needed the bathroom. I felt being contagious, that we would go ask where to get another couple of masks. I asked several nurses. No one could supply us with one. The ER doctor gave my son and I new masks. I'm sorry to be any trouble, I said again. Sunnie said, Oh, that's okay, we're not ones to get our panties in a wad because we can't control what's going...
Read moreDO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Took my fiancé to the emergency room for severe abdominal pain, we got into trioge in about 30 minutes, 15 minutes later got sent back to our actual emergency room, found out that they pair you up next to other patients.... Our "cellmate" could hear every bit of our private conversations with the Doctor, there was no privacy. What happened to HIPAA??? To top everything off, our nurse was an A**hole. After waiting in the emergency room for an hour or two for the doctor to even come in and look at her, I walked up to the nurse counter and asked how much longer it would take for a doctor to come check on my fiancé, Nurse "Kevin" said, "SHE DOESNT SOUND LIKE SHES IN BAD PAIN, I HEARD HER LAUGHING."... (She isn't laughing, our cell mate and her mother were laughing)... To top it all off, when our nurse came to finally give her something to ease the pain, it was 1:30am.. (We arrived at the hospital at 8:30pm) As Kevin is injecting medication into her IV, my Fiancé asks him how was the medications going to make her feel and nurse Kevin says "I don't know!? I've never had it!" (In the most rude tone ever)... BEING A NURSE, HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT SIMPTOMS OR SIDE AFFECTS THE DRUGS YOU ARE INJECTING INTO PATIENTS ARE GOING TO BE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? HOW IN THE WORLD ARE YOU GOING TO TELL A WELL MANNERED PATIENT THAT!? The restrooms were so bad, I was afraid to touch anything inside. Needless to say, we will NEVER GO BACK TO THAT FACILITY, I WILL DIE BEFORE THE OPTION EVER COMES UP... We ended up getting home at 3am.. So when your driving down the highway and see the billboard advertising quick ER wait times, think of how this experience went... Go to Saint Anthony's East on I-40 and Douglas intersection. They treat you with respect. Thanks for reading my rant. Hopefully it will save people...
Read moreRead moreOne of the perks of buying in MWC is that we’re close to St. Anthony’s Hospital… we thought. Been to the ER twice since moving in (hurt my leg, had a kidney stone). Leg experience was exceptional, kidney stone experience was simply unacceptable. Admitted, waited for 10 hours for surgery only to have doc say he’d only put in a stent, he was done with surgery for the day (I’d been there all day from the night before) and NO lithotripsy (11mm stone!) today — I hesitated because past stents placed after lithotripsy were simply miserable. Doc insisted and said I’d have to wait 2-3 weeks for lithotripsy. Two days later I wound up at OKC St. Anthony’s in excruciating pain (even after two doses of appropriately timed pain killers), admitted, received lithotripsy the next day. I will never go to MWC ER with kidney issues, I will NEVER see Dr. Law again. He was condescending, even belittled my concerns “as I explained when I was in here for 30 minutes, 30 minutes ago…” (he was in my room for 5-7 minutes, tops, not 30!) and? If I have medical concerns, do I not deserve to be confident in my treatment plan? I’ve NEVER gone to the ER with a stone (11mm!!!) I couldn’t possibly pass alone and been sent home without lithotripsy in more than ten years of getting these. I explained my father passed away from end stage renal failure and mother had kidney transplant “11mm stone outs patient at HIGH RISK of KIDNEY FAILURE” (ME!) he didn’t care one bit — those facts didn’t register at all with him!) and he sent me home with a stent and pain pill prescription to ride it out/suffer for 2-3 weeks. Only miserable for 1.5 days until another doc / hospital took EXCEPTIONAL care of me, I’ll gladly drive 15-20 minutes for my next kidney stone emergency...
