Indigo is a very interesting store. Books, plus a whole lot more. Because of the items featured or highlighted and the product displays, it clearly feels like a focus on female and politically liberal customers. Despite that, however, this conservative male customer was able to locate the book I was looking for, Tucker Carson's Ship of Fools, and I spent nearly an hour browsing around. They have a large children's section in the back with a wide variety of options. I was able to get exactly what my granddaughter wanted. They also have a very nice coffee shop which makes browsing, reading and snacking convenient and enjoyable.
One feature I especially liked was the well placed large and easy to spot signage to make searching for something specific much easier.
Prices seemed a bit higher than Barns & Nobel, but the convenient location right in the mall makes it a very good place to buy books, stationary items, greeting cards, toys, various gifts and a snack or just to browse around while waiting for someone who is shopping in other stores. There are a few things they could do to make the store a little more appealing to men, but I heard one woman who was in the checkout line refer to it as a "husband parking lot" for men who detest roaming around the clothing stores with their wives.

Read moreIt's here! Indigo, a popular bookstore chain in Canada, just soft-opened their first US store in the Mall at Short Hills this weekend. The new store is large, bright, and well-organized. Aside from normal rows of books, there is a large and well-design children's area in the back with books and toys, a lifestyle/home area, an area with fashion accessories, and entire room with cookbooks and kitchen wares, an area with gifts and giftwrap, even a grand piano in the center. The description doesn't actually do it justice - everything is well-curated, the space is beautiful, and you could easily spend an hour in here. So far my only criticism is that the adult board game selection was not large - this is something other bookstores in the area have caught on to and devoted a lot of space to. The cafe is not yet open but I am looking forward to it and curious if they will follow the pattern in Canada and put yet another Starbucks in, or open something else...
Read moreVERY dissatisfied with the customer service I received today by manager Eli. The Indigo kiosk indicated a book was $9.99 but I was charged the full price of the book. When this was brought to the attention of the manager Eli, he stated "I'm not in charge of managing the kiosk" and did not honor the price even after many attempt of explaining that this price is indicated on THEIR Indigo kiosk. This is very disappointing; as a manager myself I have learned that the customer is always right, especially if a price is listed in the store. I suggest Eli promptly receive a refresher on his customer service and managerial skills. I left very dissatisfied with the lack of care for the customer and as a frequent visitor, I no longer will be purchasing anything from this bookstore location. I will say that all other staff members were very helpful and...
