Excellent food from a well varied menu (maintained the chain's standard for quality fare), convenient location in the Short Hills Mall, but exceptionally slow service. In fact, the service was terrible. Our entrees took almost 50 minutes to come out and our waiter was hard to find. He wasn't particularly friendly either. My food was very tasty, but only a little warmer than room temperature instead of hot. Based on the slowness of everything, it made me suspect that it was sitting around for a while on the service line before being delivered to my table.
When we ordered desert it took almost 15 minutes for our waiter to come back and tell us they were out of the item we ordered. Then, it took almost 10 minutes to process my credit card payment.
On our way out, we decided to look over all the delicious cheesecake offerings and take something home. Big mistake. That section was very busy and clearly not staffed to handle the volume of customers they had. It took about 10 minutes just to order and then an additional 30 minutes to get 2 slices of cake. If we hadn't already paid we would have left in fruxtration, but I wasn't going to do that after paying almost 20 bucks. The cashier appeared to be either new and still in training or just not very good. The person who appeared to be the manager looked grossly disorganized unpacking, checking contents and repacking orders getting in the cashiers way and making her job harder. They must have been over reacting to recent errors in order completion, but her disruption seemed to make service worse. They need to find a better way to ensure quality of orders to go.
My final disappointment was the poor maintenance of the rest room. It was not filthy, but it did have a general appearance of lax enforcement of cleaning standards. I've heard many times that the cleanliness of the restrooms is reflective of the cleanliness of the kitchen. I hope that wasn't the case.
Over more than a decade, I have been to many different Cheesecake Factory restaurants in several different states and I've been to the SHM location 3 or 4 times before. This was the most disappointing visit even though the food tasted good. A pleasant dining out experience is more than just the food. It is the combination of good food, good service and a welcoming ambience in a clean facility. Today they missed the mark. Me and my elderly mother arrived at 420pm the wait was 35-45 mins … I was offer to sit at the bar when I then stated my mother is elderly and disabled . That wait turned into 2hours . I went to check to see how much longer 2 different times first the young lady stated she didn’t forget about me that I’m a party of 10 .. how do you confuse a party of 2 to a party of 10 … I sat there watching other parties that came in after me get placed before me … I went to the desk addition time when the hostess address me as sweetie and baby girl I got you I got you . When I stated to her I came to this restaurant at 420 you stated the wait was only 35-45 mins how was I sitting here for other 2 hours waiting on a table .. Then the table she sat us at was in the far back of the restaurant when we pass by so many empty tables the was close and not the far for my elderly mother to walk too .. So I ask to speak to a manager and a cup of water so my mother can take her medicine and that took another 15 mins . The manager came never didn’t address his self just place the water on the table walked off … The waitress was very polite and very apologetic . I then place the Appetizers and main meals all together . The waitress stated she will find another manager for me … When this manager arrived I shared my problems I had he apologized and stated my appetizer will be out right out that took a additional 40 mins … At this point I’m over the whole experience … Two minutes after the appetizer came out the brought the entrees meals … I lost my appetite and just wanted to leave the restaurant I ask if the can have the check so I can leave …I’m done with all the apologies and the problem is getting worst .. The manager took the meals and we couldn’t find him for another 35 minutes … I stated I’m not paying for meals that I didn’t eat or don’t have . The show up 35 minutes later saying thanks for being patience with us and he apologized and I paid and went on my way … I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS LOCAL EVERY...
Read moreThis is 3rd time here in 5 months w always the same problem — the service is terrible! Last night it happened again! We stood in front of the hostess hoping being seated would not require a wait as no one was waiting for a table except us. The two hosts were chatting with each other for about 1-2 minutes. Then they stopped and looked at us and then started a completely different convo with each other as though we were ghosts and not there. I finally waived my hand and said ‘hi’ and the hostess replied ‘yes may I help you?’ To which I replied ‘yes we’d like to be seated’ and she immediately took us to a seat. How weird! Then our waiter took a full 6-7 minutes to appear which can happen so can’t just judge on that. Then he warns us the menu is limited for reasons he had no idea about. (His words). My husband asked what beer was on tap and the waiter said the taps are not working. Husband said that we were there in October and taps were not working then either, and waiter said ‘yep, that’s about right it’s going on 2 months that they have not worked.’ What? Moving forward we asked for the cheddar burger - but no can do - they don’t have - so we come up with another burger they have. Condensing rest of the two hr visit , we had to ask for bread, waited 15 minutes to get a soda and a bottled beer(no glass offered). Appetizer came out but then had to wait a full 40 minutes for our meal. When meal arrived both items were absolutely delicious but my plate with pasta was dirty and greasy!! I don’t as going to send it back hoping for a clean dish, but I sister didn’t come back to check on us for over a half hour. Our waiter spent all his time chatting up the hostess and everyone in his section was looking around for him constantly. The unfortunate couple next to us waited 20 mins to get their bill!
