I don't enjoy having to write a negative review but I feel that I should share my experience to help others decide if Swinyer-Woseth Dermatology is the place for them. I am a Licensed Master Esthetician and a business owner who was looking for a derm to refer clients to, as well guide me with my own skin health. I had 4 diff appts with this office between Sept & Dec 2020 & with each appointment I had something disturbing happen. 1st appt was my skin check, the NP numbed & biopsied a lesion on my shoulder. On the way home while I was driving I had blood stream down the back of my arm, I pulled over to mop it up with the napkins I luckily had in the glove department. I was unaware that such a large chunk of my skin was missing & all they bandaged it up with was a single bandaid. 2nd appt, the biopsy came back positive for melanoma so I was scheduled for surgical removal which I envisioned being an inch or two, I had no idea it was going to be as severe as it ended being or I would have had someone drive me to my appointment. The staff at Swinyer-Woseth did not prepare me well for the discharge or the postcare of this surgery. About four days before my stitch removal, the stitches broke. This wouldn't have been a big issue if each stitch was tied off, but my sew job was done with one running stitch through the entire incision, so when it broke, all the stitches began to unravel which was very painful. My roommate said she had seen animals sewn up better than I was.Third appointment two weeks later to get the stitches out, two different aids tried to remove the stitches from my still healing, sore skin. The first aid decided her scissors were dull & went in search for another pair with her gloves on, touching all the drawers. She then returns to my wound and continues to removes stitches wearing the same gloves she just touched everything in the treatment room in. After neither of them could successfully remove the stitches, they finally decide to call in the NP. She informed me that my skin had grown over & she needed to cut me to remove them. She asked if I wanted lidocaine, which I was surprised she asked because it was pretty obvious that I was in a lot of pain. Fourth appointment was my scheduled skin check, 3 months after the melanoma removal. The medical assistant took me back to a dirty room, asked me all these questions like I had not been there before, she even asked if I had ever been diagnosed with skin cancer. I was quite annoyed feeling like I was a new patient or something and then she asked me what they were seeing me for there today. I was confused, like why don't you know who I am and what I'm here for, I'm not a walk in, don't you have my chart? She could tell I was annoyed so she snapped at me, tossed the gown on the chair, told me to undress & left the room. After being chastised like I was this lady's 14 year old daughter, I went into a full panic attack because I was so angry & didn't want to be naked in front of her. Such a vulnerable position! I didn't know if I could just leave, & the office is so big, I didn't know the way out so I just waited. When the NP came in with the medical assistant who just bit my head off, I said I couldn't do this exam today & busted out in tears. The medical assistant left the room & I told the NP what happened. She wanted me to talk with the manager but I was in such a fit, I just wanted to leave. She wanted to know if I wanted to reschedule, and I just pleaded for someone to escort me out. That was December 3rd and no one from Swinyer-Woseth has called to check on me. After being diagnosed with melanoma, you're supposed to have a skin check every three months. This month should have been my second skin check after surgery, but I am still looking for a new...
Read moreI rarely write google reviews, especially negative ones, but after some thought I decided to write one for the Swinyer-Woseth Dermatology Clinic on their tactless and unprofessional staff. I had a completely terrible experience with the receptionist staff that checked me in. The woman checking me in told me I was late, which I actually arrived a few minutes before my 10:45am appointment and would have been there sooner (at the requested 15 mins early), but a motorcyclist was hit on highland drive causing delays. She asked me for my insurance card and ID and I explained I had forgotten the card at home, but told her I had the policy # and group #. She said that wasn't good enough and she needed the card to scan. Fair enough, so I had the front and back of the card texted to me from home. She was beyond rude to me in her choice of words and tone of voice when asking questions before handing me the forms to fill out. As I was filling them out she proceed to holler across the desk to me for my card info and if it was being sent to me. I told her it was. I said it would be just a minute. Then she proceed to ask me several times in the same fashion and told me "you're going to be messing up other appointments by being late". At this point I received the card info and asked her for her email, which she didn't even offer during the entire tirade of asking me for it. I sent it from my iphone twice and she kept asking (from across the room yet again, in front of all the other people in the lobby) and saying she didn't receive it. I asked if she checked her spam and she replied it wouldn't be in there. She rudely said "if I don't have your card you will be charged for your visit". Again she said this from across the lobby, as I was still seated. I said that was fine, but I sent the cards twice to your email. I quickly completed my forms and took them to her. I took a seat again and waited for my name to be called.
After my appointment finished, I wound up at the billing desk and she still had not received the emails. I requested if there was another person I could send it to, which the other rude receptionist gave me her email on a post it note and I sent it to her twice. This only took a couple minutes and she eventually received it after I asked if she refreshed her inbox, but during this time they kept pressing me to pay the $260 for the 15 minute visit with the doctor. Yes that's right $260... My previous Dermatology appointments in Denver Co were less than $100 and the service the practice was top notch, clean and very professional. Once she received it I left and once I got to the parking lot I felt horrible about my experience at this practice.
I was a first time customer attempting to find a new skin doctor in town since my move here and I will not be returning to this practice and I'd advise others to look carefully for their dermatology needs and proceed with caution.
UPDATE: My bill was not $260. I just received a $535.50 charge in the mail for a visit that was less than 30 mins total in this practice. I will be calling into resolve this issue for sure. Furthermore, as all who have taken the time to read these reviews and responses can see that the "owner" is teetering on the boarder of breaching client and patient confidentiality by publicizing aspects of patient treatments & visits online for all to see. I think this speaks volumes to the code of business conduct that this practice likely follows and how patients are...
Read moreI went in originally to see about getting a mark on my face removed. I thought it was a scar from maybe using a blackhead remover tool a little too aggressively. Doctor Swinyer examined it closely and said, "I think that might be a Carcinoma." This threw me for a loop. I hadn't even considered that as a possibility. A biopsy was taken and sent for analysis. It came back positive for Basal Cell Carcinoma. I was promptly scheduled to undergo Mohs Surgery to remove the cancer. I was scheduled with Dr. Yates on January 16th, 2025.
I had been doing some homework to familiarize myself with Mohs Surgery and needly to say, I was nervous. The spot on my face had been there for years and I thought, "What if it's one of those 'tip of the iceberg' situations and I'm going to lose a large chunk of my cheek???" Only time would tell.
The day of the appointment arrived and I was taken back to the room for the procedure with very minimal waiting (this was an early 7:00 am appointment). Dr. Yates came in and the procedure was started. He was very good with the numbing medication and he used his off-hand to vibrate my cheek to trick my brain into feeling less pain during the injections. I was pleased with the minimal pain that was felt. After numbness set in, the excision of the defect was performed. An oval a little smaller than a dime, I would say. I was bandaged up and awaited the results of the testing.
Dr. Yates came back in about 25 minutes later and I have to say, the look on his face gave me the impression, "We're going to need to take more skin." But I was thrilled to hear him utter the words, "Your margins are all clear." I nearly started tearing up because I was so sure I was going to need more excisions since the mark had been on my face for years.
Dr. Yates numbed me up again and very carefully drew the lines around the wound to convert the oval into a football shape. I could tell he was very conscientious of preserving as much healthy skin as possible and was making the scar on my face as small as possible.
I was sewn up and done all within an hour. I was thrilled that it had gone so well. I was diligent with post-operative wound care and I had my stitches removed 1 week later on January 23, 2025. The photos provided of me laying in the chair and the final photo are only 1 week apart. As you can see, the wound on my face is barely perceivable after even a week.
I want to personally thank everyone at Swinyer-Woseth for an outstanding job on discovering my cancer and so promptly getting it removed. I'm sure I will need further skin treatments in my life and I plan to keep coming back as...
