Pacific Produce is an interesting place. It’s fantastic if you’re looking for specialty Asian ingredients you may not be able to find anywhere else in Milwaukee. I’ve been looking for Enoki mushrooms for a couple of months with no luck but found them easily here (and for 99 cents!). However, there are a few drawbacks to the store…
It’s freezing. Bring/wear something warm, like a winter jacket, or else you won’t last more than 5 minutes. The cashiers were all wearing winter jackets with their hoods up.
Things seem disorganized. Yes, the produce is all together, the noodles are mostly in one aisle, as are the dried mushrooms, etc…but you will probably have to look around for quite a while to find certain things. We didn’t see any signage indicating which aisles had which items, so it was trial and error. No employees ever approached us or asked if we needed assistance. Give yourself enough time to look around, especially if it’s your first visit. It was cool to browse the shelves in general. They have a lot of fun candy/sweets.
The prices are fair, and in some cases much less expensive than for instance a Pick ‘n Save. Make sure you check the expiration dates on the products, as other reviewers mentioned. Based on what I saw, I would personally avoid purchasing meat here. When we went yesterday, there was a leak in the roof(?) and a large bin of water being collected in the middle of an aisle, which was really off-putting and definitely didn’t seem sanitary. Maybe not a normal occurrence, but still.
All said and done, if you’re looking for specialty Asian ingredients in Milwaukee, this...
Read moreI love this place, I'm a cook by Nature so I'm always willing to try new things I like going in there and just looking around at stuff always see something new and they got the plug on real Wok's and cooking utensils they also sell rice makers at a fraction of the price you normally pay any place else. I especially like the guy who runs the show he's a straight-up guy he don't mess around. And he knows exactly where everything is you can ask him for a small can of squid legs and he will tell you if not take you right to them and it's a big store they got a lot of stuff! They have things you can't find anywhere else like Duck or goose, also has a deli with hot food and a fruit smoothie stand. Just remember if you cant find somebody who speaks English understand, a lot do not but if you see somebody else shopping more than likely they would be more than happy to help you I've had this happen to me several times, don't look at it as a bad experience because you can't find someone to communicate with, look at it as a positive experience because now you're going to reach out to somebody you don't know and ask for help and get a better understanding of the people and their culture at least that's how I look at it. lots of great sales some things are priced high but I think that's because they're from overseas and you know how that goes anyway you should check them out if anything just to find something new and gain but a piece of the...
Read moreIf you’re looking for an Asian market this is it. It has a lot of variety of Asian cuisine ingredients of Hmong, Thai, Laotian, and Korean variety. I can usually do my shopping all in sitting at this store compared to the other smaller Asian markets. Now here are some things to consider when coming to shop at this store especially if you’re non-Asian. Parking is decent but if you go at its peak (weekend) its a bit of a walk especially since there’s only one entrance and exit (same). It’s conjoined next to Hmong Town which isn’t part of the grocery market but for other Asian items you may need to buy (household, eatery inside, medicine, jewelry/clothes, and etc. Not all employees speak good English if even at all besides the owner. Double check your meat if you’re buying to make sure it’s not expired or funky smelling/looking. Usually only 1 check out line so the line wait can be long especially at peak. Store is usually cold especially during winter time so be sure to be bundled inside also.
I’ve never had an issue while shopping here. You’ll encounter you’re usually homeless people that begs for money at the corner or near the store. But overall if you’re looking for a good variety of Asian cuisine ingredients or foods for a good...
