This is from my Yelp review, since this was a deeply disappointing visit, I feel the need to warn others:
"I've given this a few weeks so I can mull over my really, really bad experience here. First let me start off by mentioning the wait times. I actually didn't mind it, but it seems they also have booked appointments with clients, so instead of having a barber or two set up for walk ins only they made pretty much everyone wait. Almost seemed pointless to have an appointment system. But like I said, it was the least annoying thing about my first (and last cut there). The women at the front were super nice, friendly and tried explaining to everyone to put their name on the board. Everybody who had their hair cut with them seemed pleased. Then there was the judgemental and off putting barber hidden in the alcove. And that's sadly who I had. First of all, let me say that my hair was long and I was growing it out for a specific cut. The picture I showed the barber was a screenshot of a picture from THEIR Instagram. My cut is usually short on the sides with a tight pomp on top. I asked for the sides shaved and a pomp. What does he give me? A crew cut. No joke. 100% no making this up. Did he misunderstand? Was he not capable of anything more? Was he unsure? So many questions but not one logical answer. So basically I chalk it up to basic incompetence. A bad barber is a bad barber. Nothing more, nothing less. Now I have ridiculously short hair, but the flipside is that it's summer, so all is not lost. The other problem, which is why I waited so long before I wrote a review (asked friends near and far if this was inflammatory comments in his part), I was visiting from out of town. I specifically sought out this shop based on reviews and the Instagram output. I let my hair get shaggy for this cut, but usually have something very similar. So why do I feel that his comments are racially insensitive when he asked me "are you sure you can have this hairstyle? Have you had anything like this before?" It was off putting and I was flabbergasted, but I assumed (wrongly) that he could follow basic directions. Here is a tip. White people are not the only culture that sports pompadours. It's foolish to think that only "white hair" is capable of sculpting and carrying copious amounts of pomade. But it was my last issue that really made me feel unwelcome and instantly regret my decision of visiting this shop. In our small talk of where I'm from and my visit in town, I say "you should visit one day". Now anyone listening on, or part of the conversation knows it's polite talk and we both know I don't care if he comes to my city or not. But instead he says "ooooh no. No way." Huh? Then proceeded to tell me "isn't there a murder there every day". Really? You would say this to your client? About their hometown? Something he clearly is ignorant on? Frankly Minneapolis was a wonderful place to visit, I loved how multicultural it was, but when I dealt with small town mentality, like I did with this barber, it ruined things for me. So if you read this all, and was flip-flopping on whether to visit this shop, I implore you to take your...
Read moreBefore moving to MN, My brother and I were visiting looking for possible places to move, he needed a cut so I joined him. We looked up some reviews and it seemed Barber Sharp was the place for his needs so he got a cut, which he really enjoyed, by Mike (no longer there) 6 months later it was time for me to get a haircut and Barber Sharp was the only place I was even semi familiar with. I went to get a haircut by Mike as well. Keep in mind I have Extremely thick and curly hair which I know is difficult to cut to my liking, at least on the first attempt. (This knowledge comes from NEVER getting a cut I enjoyed by anyone other than my barber of 16 years) I was actually very pleased with the outcome of Mikes cut. It was a bit different then I was used to, but found myself really diggin' it! Just tonight I called to see if Mike was around and I was told he was else-ware now, but figured If he did well, I am sure the rest of the Sharp crew would as well. I was greeted by Kelly, the owner who was such a delightful, and rad person! Shes very hip and fun to talk with! Owning a business related to great hospitality, I have to say this was one of the most hospitable experiences thus far in MN for me. It was a slow night and everyone gathered around the small room for good conversation after she kicked her dog off the chair for me to take a seat! We had a great time talking, and I felt as if we had all been friends and known each other for a while. This type of experience I find to be very rare. I highly recommend at least giving them a try, and if you are a guy with curly hair like me you seriously need to make sure you have Kelly cut your hair, I doubt you will be disappointed! She even asked me to show her what I do with my hair in the morning while getting ready, so she had a better idea of how to cut it to fit my needs - so rad! Oh, and as I was thinking "where is the PBR I know they hand out" she had asked if i knew they used to give out a beer while giving haircuts, I replied yes, and she told me how insurance had asked if they stopped, which is understandable i guess. Luckily I now know next time I am more then welcome to bring in my own brew to enjoy! Hell, Ill bring a 6 pack to share with the sharp crew / other guests! I will be going to Kelly for every single cut till the day I leave MN,...
Read moreFirst time experience, great atmosphere, friendly staff, poor haircut... I went here for the first time yesterday, and was greeted warmly and offered a beer. I waited about 10 mins because one of the barbers was on the phone and there was no line. the barber was conversational and nice, but the cut ended up being inconsistent. I have a simple crew cut, gave the instructions " 3 on the sides, tapered neck, blended to 1.5" on the top." Left to right the blends were completely different, one side basically didn't have a blend with the 3 length going way too high and straight to the 1.5", the other side looked more natural. the neck taper was good.
I also asked for a beard trim for the new beard I don't know how to deal with. I got some light advice about beard oil. The edging looked pretty good but the beard trim once again was inconsistent left to right. with the right being basically untrimmed. I was able to fix this at home afterwords.
The barber was also distracted by phone calls and the other barbers quite often. This might of contributed to the inconsistent result.
The total time was about 45 mins.
I'll return in a few weeks and try a different barber and see if the result is better. I'll be sure to post a...
