I absolutely hate leaving negative reviews, but my experience today cannot go unmentioned. Before reading, I encourage you to read reviews I have left on other businesses; most are 5 stars. I visited Michael Ross today hoping for a little clarification regarding my deceased mothers jewelry. There were a few items I was unsure of and others needed a general cleaning. When I arrived, Warren, the business owner, was not there. However, there was an incredibly kind associate who offered me water or coffee while I waited for Warren who would be arriving shortly. Apparently, he likes to perform his own “inspections”. This wasn’t a problem as I took the opportunity to browse their collection and the associate cleaned a few of the items I brought in. Because I had a quite a few pieces, I did ask if I could pay a fee for the cleaning and inspection, to which he informed me there was no fee, and they were happy to take a look at what I brought- great! Mainly, I only needed to know if they were real gold and stones. I did not care of the monetary value as their sentimental value would have far exceeded any number, and only needed to know if they should be well protected and properly cleaned from time to time. When Warren arrived, he immediately sounded perturbed that I would have the audacity to ask him to do such a thing. He began taking out rings and earrings, flagrantly tossing them on the counter without any care or handling while saying “fake, this is worthless (in reference to a jade ring), hideous, etc.” I was absolutely flabbergasted, but kept my composure partly because I believe I was in shock and partly because flies and vinegar don’t mix. He did not test any of the items while he flippantly continued to spout off “fake, fake, worthless”. He showed no respect for my mothers items or the fact that she was deceased and I was attempting to care for her things. Still, I continued to ask if a certain ring was gold. He begrudgingly responded that there would be a $30 charge to test the piece. I found this odd considering I was previously told there was no charge for testing and cleaning, but I said that was fine and asked him to proceed. Once the ring tested real, he seemed dismayed that he was wrong and insisted his machine was faulty and that “this ring is so fake and worthless, I know I’m not wrong”. At that point, I was done. I politely asked for my mothers belongings. Once received, I let him know I would be taking them to Lou’s. I further informed him there are better and kinder ways to communicate with people and that I found him to be incredibly rude. He began to laugh and it was clear he mistakingly took this as me being upset that my mothers jewelry was not real because his response was “I can’t help it if they’re fake”. I reminded him that it did not matter to me whether they were authentic or not, it was his awful demeanor, tasteless responses, and lack of class & couth that upset me. On the way out he shouted “I’m glad you got your free cleaning”- to begin with, he said it was the “testing” that was suppose be $30? Regardless, I was eager to pay the measly $30 for his “faulty machine” so that he could not respond to this review saying anything about receiving services for free. Interestingly enough, the moment I turned around and took out my card, he was no longer interested in collecting his fee. I immediately took my things to Lou’s, where I should have went in the first place. I just happened to be off Hillcrest and decided to try this poorly locally owned and operated establishment. I will never again cheat on Lou’s, PERIOD. As it turned out, multiple pieces of hers were authentic and will need yearly cleaning to maintain the stones and metal for generations down the road. You’re more than welcome to read my review with Lou’s to see how my experience was.
Go to Lou’s. I am all about supporting local businesses- but I would gladly see a “For Lease” sign in the Michael...
Read moreJudging by the two recent one star reviews both of those individuals refer to “Lou’s” and they hope to see a “for lease” sign up in their reviews. Sounds like somebody at Lous is jealous of Michael Ross Jewelers. I have dealt with Michael Ross for years and never had any indication of rudeness from Warren or his staff. He is kind but he is also fair to all his customers when I’ve been in the store and my dealings with him. Warren does not discriminate and is inclusive to people of all walks of life and very benevolent to local charities. The 5 stars far outweigh the two recent 1 star reviews. Kindness goes a long way, if one can’t say anything nice it’s best to not say anything at all. Honestly, $150 is not a lot of money in today’s time, especially if you’re wearing cheap jewelry. I’ve been at all the jewelry stores of Mobile and this place...
Read moreI am EXCEEDINGLY pleased with The pieces I bought From Michael Ross Jewlers today! I got a good Black Friday deal. My favorite part about Michael Ross jewelers is the wide variety selection and the customer service! The customer service is SUPERIOR to all of the other locally owned jewelers in Mobile, and I have been to all of them in Mobile shopping for christmas. The extensive selection is a plus for me because I had several candidates I was debating between whereas at the other stores only a couple of pieces here and there that i was interested in. I like to support Small business says the chain jewelers are out for me. I had undoubtedly the best experience at this jeweler than any other ever. Michael Ross is now my new jeweler. Thank you for making my Christmas so...
