Mathias Bryan Fine Jewelers — Local services in Monroe

I first went to Mathias Bryand in 2008. My DH had gained a bit and needed to have his wedding ring resized. I didn't think much about it then because it was such a simple job, but it was done in good time, the ring looked great and the sizing was right on.

I just had occasion to visit again. This time it was my ring that needed help. It had developed a sharp spot on the inside, it was dull and scratched up and had been giving me a blister every time I wore it. This is no simple band though. It is a custom 3 piece set welded together to form one large piece.

I took it in to Jackie and he saw right away what I was talking about. He warned me that because he would have to break the welds, resize all 3 pieces, weld it back again and add more gold and rhodium (I have a white gold set) that it was going to be more expensive. I had figured on that already so that wasn't a surprise.

What was a surprise was what I saw when I got my ring back.

It was amazing. The quality of the work was far above and beyond what the original jewlery store did when they welded and sized the set originally. The welds, which had been rather obvious blobs of material on the palm side had been made absolutely invisible. Instead the set was attached together in about 4 different places with tiny welds done in places where the set naturally met. It was as smooth as glass inside, and generally looked better than when it was put on my finger on my wedding day.

I am shocked and thrilled that a shop that can't be more than maybe 300 sq ft inside and is in as small a town as Monroe does such great work. I will be bringing my jewelry repairs here for as long as he stays open, and when he retires I'll keep my fingers crossed that he's trained someone to do the same quality work that he does to...

I have been meaning to stop by for so long, they do keep unusual hours but I walked in right as he was closing...he gave me a watch battery for 5 bucks and repaired an old silver necklace of mine for free. I'm sure this isn't the situation every time someone walks in, I think I caught him in an awkward time but he didn't know me from Adam and treated me like he had known me for 20 years.
