I've watched as The Crossroads has slowly evolved over the years and while it's gotten considerably better in recent years with the remodel of Safeway/CVS and the addition of the pet store, ACE Hardware, Starbucks, and the community hospital's satellite location, it still has a hard time attracting businesses that can afford to stay and pay what must be painfully high rent rates. There is a lot of turnover, however some longstanding favorites still remain—namely Rio Grill & RG Burgers.
There's also a UPS Store, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Shell gas station, a dry cleaner/tailor, locally owned frozen yogurt and coffee shops, and a disproportionate number of high end/overpriced stores that make you wonder how they possibly have enough customers to stay in business. There's a decent amount of easily accessible parking throughout, as well as public restrooms.
The shopping center itself is located right off of Rio Rd & Highway 1 before you'd start making your way toward Big Sur, which is about 25 miles south. Point Lobos, a beautiful state park, is about 5 minutes down Hwy 1 and Carmel Beach is a little more than a mile away, and The Crossroads is by far the best option in town if you want to get an affordable lunch to go and enjoy it somewhere with a...
Read moreThis shopping center is missing a lot of little things that make the place literally trashy!
No trash cans in the parking lot; that's why there is always garage drifting across the lot and along the sidewalk that goes from Safeway to Rio Rd. I've even witnessed a mom toss her baby's diaper down that hill while parked in the side of Safeway!!
They also need more shopping carts stalls because the walkways that's supposed to be for pedestrians to walk threw the parking lot, is ALWAYS blocked by carts! So I'm stuck walking with my CANE next to vehicles.
Just turn the sections of sidewalk into cart corrals already. That's how it's already treated.
For an affluent area, this place is disappointing and covered in trash! They could do a lot better, but they won't.
I understand Safeway probably needs to step up and make some changes, but they won't do anything unless someone tells them to. Management there didn't care their motor carts weren't even working and shrugged me off when I said they haven't worked for months! Complained to customer service via social media and they finally have...
