Update 5/15 The new grilled cheese + tomato bisque combo was great! My kids love it while I stick with the turkey or beef sandwiches usually.
These sandwiches are really good and their duck fat fries (no seed oils) are amazing and I like them extra crispy.
Update Oct 2024 Ordered online 3 sandwiches and they came out perfectly with all of our adjustments (no tomatoes, extra pickles, toasted bread etc) . Food was ready and delicious as always. I can’t recreate the sandwich at home so I make it a point to grab a sandwich before hitting Point Lobos! A perfect grab and go spot for an amazing day at Point Lobos.
We tried four sandwiches and had a hard time narrowing down the options. The QR code at our table was easy to use with my smartphone but you can order at the front as well. We started with drinks and we all wanted to try some Aura Bora sparkling fruit waters. I had a glass of Merlot/Cabernet Bordeaux. Self-serve water is at the bar counter. Each sandwich was unique and delicious. The chicken parmesan wjth pesto came warm and was enjoyed by all (we each tried all four sandwiches). The Turkey was classically prepared with Mayo and pickles and was perfect. The Thanksgiving sandwich is Turkey with bacon and cranberry compote—different but very good! The charcuterie had various meats on a fluffy roll and very tasty. We sat in a comfortable booth but we saw some other tables available and a more private back room.
It’s on the corner of the Crossroads shopping center so it’s hard to miss with plentiful free parking.
Their coffees are excellent and you can take beans home with you (wine and olive oil as well) .
We come here about twice a month or order takeout with...
Read moreWe almost missed out on this absolute gem.
We had initially bypassed Breadsong in search of some gluten free breakfast. We happened into conversation nearby and were told that we absolutely could not leave without trying Breadsong’s sourdough bread (obv not gf). We opted to try the restaurant out and I (gf) ordered an eclectic and insanely flavourful breakfast of their burrata salad (glorious fresh burrata absolutely smothered in yummy olive oil and delightful balsamic vinegar with flavour rich tomatoes) and duck fat fries with lemon garlic aioli. My husband annihilated his sourdough sandwich with all its layers of different types of smoked and cured meats.
Drinks. We have never had better chai lattes in our lives. My husband often orders one wherever we go. I ended up with a dirty chai latte as a second drink because my so-called ‘dry cappucino’ was actually more like a quite bitter macchiato (not what I was looking for on a cloudy Saturday morning). I ended up ordering a chai latte after trying my husband’s and falling in love. I had mine with two espresso shots and it was the stuff dreams. I want to go back right now (but I am 300 miles away).
We had zero self control and added a duck fat fried donut and a house made chocolate peanut butter cup to our order. They were good but not the hi-lights of our order.
We will be back whenever we are next in Carmel. Yes, it was pricey for a quick breakfast, but it was insanely good with high quality and fresh...
Read moreWe really wanted to like this place, the espresso was excellent, the raisin cinnamon pastry with elderflower was too sweet and the elderflower flavor was not coming through at all, if it was there it was over powered by the cinnamon (Bechler has the best pastry of this kind in nearby Pacific Grove). The French bread for the breakfast sandwich was pretty good but the inside had a very scant amount of ingredients listed for the item like cheese, tomatoes and cilantro, plus it was seasoned with a ton of hot sauce which I wasn’t told about so I couldn’t eat it. They opened an hour later than their posted hours, the person making coffee was new and the owner seemed to be passionate and friendly but no real sense of how to operate as a business. You place your order at a self checkout and no receipt. Very confusing, disorganized and really lacking in flavor and quality for the price (extremely expensive). They seem to do bread and espresso extremely well so I recommend purchasing the coffee and a fresh baked loaf of bread but skip the rest. If you want something really sugary and sweet Bechler in Pacific Grove is the real deal, just be prepared for rude service there, they were extremely...
