C.U. SUSHI Rolls & Bowls — Restaurant in Monterey

Update: they responded to both my phone calls and review. I went back maybe a week later to order the same thing. They gave me a discount, apologized and threw in a special roll for me. As a former customer service worker, this made things right for me. I also think my rice was better proportioned and certainly their fish is fresh and delicious!

On my way to pick up some quick sushi from Safeway I decided to give this place a try. The restaurant was clean, the service was friendly if a bit slow, as was the preparation of my order. I took my sushi to go and was disappointed when I got home and had only been given 6 pieces of sushi when I ordered 8. I called, and there seemed to be no plan in place for this happening. I suggested they refund the difference, and they said OK. Never said they were sorry or apologized in any way. The sushi is fine but it’s actually quite a lot of rice for nigiri. Their unagi is also very much on the sweet side of things. I think I will go to Safeway again next time and save myself some money and...

My experience here was the absolute worst…first when we had arrived the staff claimed they could not accommodate our party size (4 people and a small child) so we opted for take out which was a little annoying but fine. We order the take out and once we arrive home the only thing that was correct from our order was the gyoza. I attempted to call multiple times to get this issue resolved but no luck $90 down the drain. I am assuming they just gave us whatever rolls they felt like making because not a single one was correct.

Edit: I spoke with the owner and he was very apologetic. He explained that there may have been a mix up with our order and another order that was placed around the same time. He is issuing a refund for the amount spent and I feel he handled the situation very well. I also appreciated the quick response after...

We've tried all the other local sushi restaurants, and this is our favorite. We found it a couple months ago - it's new - at lunchtime, and it was so good we went back for dinner that same night. Since then, we eat here at least once a week, sometimes two or three times, and have never been disappointed. We always order the salmon avocado rolls, and they are consistently delicious. The fish is always fresh. The ginger is tasty and is the proper beige kind. Their sushi rice is excellent. Ingredients are always top quality. We get takeaway, and service is consistently superb: friendly, courteous, and fast. It's owned and operated by a really nice, hardworking local family. It's super clean and covid-conscious.
