I brought in my silver signet ring to be resized this week to be a bit smaller. I spoke with the jeweler that day and so felt confident to leave it in his hands. The ring was brand new and it had a subtle matte brushed finish all on the outside, and I assumed the jeweler would resize it, and brush the repaired parts to match.
When I saw the ring after the resizing, I was a little shocked to see that the finish had been completely buffed away, leaving it super shiny. Even the antiquing on the face had been lifted away by this process. I did not ask for the finish on the ring to be changed, only the size.
On that day I was speaking with an associate, who could see in the 'before' photo that the finish was different. I asked if they could restore it and she took it back to one of the jewelers who simply told her they would need to have the other jeweler take a look at it. He did not come speak to me to explain anything in his process, which I would have preferred since he had made such an obvious change.
When I picked it up after a couple more days, again I spoke with another associate who did not refer to the finishing process I had requested or communicate anything from the jeweler to me. The beautiful finish which had been buffed away on the face of the ring apparently could not be restored, so now the face of the ring does not match the rest of the ring. The associate I spoke to did not indicate for certain why this choice was made.
Since bringing it home and wearing it, I've also noticed that the bottom edges where it was resized are now sharp and uncomfortable against my skin.
The lack of attention to the subtle details--the finish and the sharp edges--and the lack of communication with me during the week was truly disappointing from a fine jeweler. There was not even an apology for their mistake! This ring was an investment piece for me, and considering how much the resizing cost me, overall I am disappointed, especially as a first...
Read moreOne month to repair the prong (one of four) on a pendant and reset the stone! I've been in the store three times to check on the progress, because no one has called me. The last week they were honest enough to admit they broke the remaining prongs trying to repair it, and needed to send it away to be fixed. This week they said it, "might be in by the end of the week," but I am having my doubts. They still want to charge me the original quote. (Update) The owner replied via Google, instead of calling me (my number is printed on the receipt). And while I appreciate the detailed explanation here, it doesn't make up for not telling me (in person) the three other times I visited the store, or in today's phone call. I would have understood the circumstances, if it was communicated to me in the first place. I am missing the customer service (here) that I deserved, including someone telling me...
Read moreI went to Miller’s to get the prong tips on my ring strengthened and repaired. I wore the ring consistently for a couple months after the repair and one day looked at my hand and the stone was gone! One of the prongs had broken near the base. I called Miller’s and brought the ring to them. They took a picture of the prongs and showed me cracking on the base of another prong and said it sometimes gets weak with exposure but that wasn’t where the repair was done. I asked if they saw it before and the said no. My ring was ruined and my stone gone. To my surprise and joy, Todd asked if I would like it repaired at no charge for a keepsake. When I picked it up, he had repaired it AND replaced the stone. I was very pleased with the outcome although I was advised to only wear it occasionally because of...
