“Here’s my story, it’s sad but true, It’s about a computer that I once knew…”
My computer was having problems. It would take an hour or longer to boot up. Clicking on icons or links could take up to 10 minutes to execute. I knew I needed a PC professional to determine what the problem was and recommend solutions. I checked the internet (Google, Yelp, etc.) for PC repair businesses in the Naperville/Downers Grove area. After reading various reviews, I chose DPC Computer Repair and am glad that I did.
I took my computer in to them. The first thing they did was to take out the hard drive and put it in a cradle where they could run some diagnostic tests on it. Surprise! Surprise! The hard drive was failing. They would replace the hard drive and try to recover the data that was on it. While I had it in their shop, I wanted them to replace the failed CD-ROM drive and to see if they could increase the memory from 4 GB.
For about the same price as replacing the failed drives on my computer and upgrading the memory, they would sell me a reconfigured PC that had 250 GB solid-state drive, a 1 TB hard drive, 16 GB of RAM, a CD-ROM drive and the latest version of Windows 10 installed and configured. I took them up on the offer and am so glad that I did. The solid-state drive is really fast as I knew it would be. The PC boots up in a matter of seconds. With all the memory, the PC runs without the delays that my old computer suffered from when it needed to retrieve memory from the pagefile on the hard drive. Not only all of this hardware, but DPC were able to recover the data on my failing hard drive; I am grateful to them for being able to accomplish that. Other than having to let go of old versions of programs that I was used to and having the learn the new versions, everything with the new computer has been great.
If you’re looking for a computer repair business in the Naperville area, I highly recommend DPC Computer Repair. They do a very good work and can recommend cost-effective solutions and upgrades. I am very happy with their service and products and I’m sure you will be too!
DPC Computer Repair to the rescue again!
I got tripped up when upgrading my laptop computer to Windows 10, version 1903. After the upgrade, I got a message that the Intel driver for the hard disk needed to be upgraded. An upgrade was available online but some people were reporting that it would not install correctly if the previous version of the driver were was still there. So, in preparation for the driver upgrade, I renamed the existing driver (rather than removing it).
After doing this, I rebooted the laptop so I could install new driver – at least that’s what I intended to do. Since I had renamed the existing driver, Windows couldn’t find it and therefore couldn’t access the hard disk and therefore the computer could not boot up – not even to safe mode.
DPC Computer Repair to the rescue. I took my laptop to Adam. He worked his magic – he got the laptop to boot, completed the v1903 install and applied all the available updates. Voila! I now have a functioning and updated laptop computer
Again, if you’re looking for a computer repair business in the Naperville area, I highly recommend DPC Computer Repair. They are easy to work with and do...
Read moreI am so happy that I found DPC Computer Repair. They saved the day for me. My old desktop PC is about 15 years old but it does everything I need to do with it and I maintain it religiously - keeping it updated, running scans and making image backups twice a week on different external hard drives. I won't bore the reader with the details of how my computer crashed but it was a disaster for me. The hardware was fine but the OS crashed at a critical time when a image restore program was running. There may have been a momentary power failure at a critical moment but there was no way to even access the OS or run any kind of recovery or repair tool.
Even though I'm not a computer whiz, I've always been able to fix computer problems myself but not this time. It was just plain dead. I tried everything with no luck. I wouldn't mind buying a new computer but I dreaded the thought of having to get all my apps and personalized settings back. As a last resort, I called a couple computer repair businesses and explained the problem to them. They both said the problem was so serious that they wouldn't be able to fix it but one of them recommended I contact DPC Computer repair before I gave up on my old PC. So I gave DPC a call, explained the problem and they told me to bring the PC in. At that point, I had very little hope that the PC could be fixed but I was desperate to try anything. That was a week ago today. I received a phone message yesterday saying my PC was "done" but I was still worried that it might not be back to the way it was. I thought that maybe they just loaded a new install of Windows 10 but I would have to build everything back to the way it was. I was (and still am) so incredibly happy because DPC got my PC back to exactly how it was before the crash. And because I made image backups every week, it was current. I didn't have to change a single thing. And, to top it off, and to my great delight, DPC changed out my 1TB hard drive with a 1TB SSD drive! I couldn't believe it. In fact, now I'm glad that my PC crashed because now it's better and faster than ever and the old machine has a new life. As I mentioned, it does everything I need it to do. I'm not a gamer so I don't need the latest and most powerful PC but it's now faster than ever. And all that for much less than I thought I would be charged.
I can honestly say that I can't remember ever being so happy with service of any kind from any company. And the DPC employees were so nice and didn't talk down to me like some computer techs unfortunately do. It really says something when a computer repair person says he can't fix something and then recommends someone else for the job. DPC is clearly very highly thought of by other people in the business.
It was a great experience and I am so happy! I thought I was going to have to buy a new PC and spend the next week or two getting things back to the way it was, if that was even possible. I have some apps that probably aren't available anymore.
As you can tell, I highly recommend DPC...
Read moreMy friend wanted to get a new MacBook last year and wanted to sell her old mid 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro. I had never had a Mac and really wanted one, we bartered and I got it and was in love. Got it in October, downloaded Catalina and was good to go.
Back in December during the holidays, I tripped and my MacBook fell in my backpack but after a blue highlighted screen for five minutes it was working totally normal and fine.
Fast forward to end of March quarantine time, my Mac started crashing while I was using zoom and I was getting the prohibitory symbol and question mark folder. Kept reading up on internet recovery but my Mac would boot up normal after a few attempts of turning on/off and leaving it for a few hours.
A week later it happened again. And a week after that. I was still able to work but not knowing when the crash would happen or what app if any was causing it made me worry. I thought it was Catalina so I did the internet recovery to re-install Mountain Lion. It worked so I tried high Sierra and everything seemed fine for a few days...until...yep, prohibitory symbol.
But this time, I couldn't even re-install Mountain Lion. Hard drive wasn't listed in internet recovery, so I finally gave up trying to solve my problem on my own for free.
I live in South Naperville, near Bolingbrook and saw DPC had 5 stars on google review and that they were pretty cheap when it came to fixing Macs. Told them my issues and they called me several times the next day trying different attempts to fix it.
Ended up being a bad cable that was connected to the hard drive and the hard drive was fine but just wouldn't work with my Mac, so they put in a new hard drive with less storage space.
All's well that ends well. My Mac is now way, way faster than before, I can operate Catalina no problem, I really didn't need 500 GB of storage space, and I was easily able to re-download the apps I lost and reconfigure Safari.
And they did all that for under $150. This is definitely the computer repair shop to go to in...
