By far one of the best retail and customer service experiences I have ever had in my life! My hard drive crashed unexpectedly about 2 weeks ago. It was a 2 TB drive with all our documents, pictures and videos. About 8 years of data. My fault for not backing up, but we had never had an issue with the computer. It's a great computer. A Dell Alienware desktop that we bought about 8 years ago with more computing and processing power than we needed so it would last for 10 years or more. Well, we almost made it to 10 years had the drive not crashed. I tried to figure out if I could fix the problem, but quickly realized I needed an expert. I did a Google search for my area for data recovery. Nerd Rangers popped up with all 5 star reviews. I reached out to them and they advised me to bring it in for diagnosis. First off, when they told me to bring it in, they explained exactly in detail what I could expect. The most I would be out was $90 for the diagnosis of the computer. Based on what I told them, they felt confident my data could be saved. I brought the computer in for diagnosis and the owner laid out the next steps. If data could be recovered, it was a flat $500 that included my $90 for diagnosis. So really $90 plus $410 to save my data. He would know within a day or so if the data could be saved and we would go from there. The next day the owner contacted me to tell me my data could be saved! What a relief! The next decision was to where to put that data. On an external drive or new hard drive. The owner told me my computer was in great shape for its age and told me it would be worth my while to replace my hard drive to prolong the life of my computer. He said I could buy my own drive or he would get one for me. I chose to have him provide one and install it for me. He told me the new one was more updated than my original and would work better on my computer. He told me with the installation of the new drive into my desktop, transfer of data from old drive to new one and reinstallation of Windows 10, out the door price was $860. They were very upfront and gave me plenty of options on how to proceed. I agreed to the work and had my computer back within a few days. I plugged it in when I got home and it worked awesome!!! Even better than before. For the price of $860, they did everything for me and saved me having to buy a new computer. They even gave me a backup solution to purchase in the future when I want to start backing up my data. Nerd Rangers was a life saver with all aspects of my computer. What a great experience! I am so happy to have all my family pictures and videos and a computer that is working like new. Highly recommended for any of your computer needs. They are unbelievable and very...
Read moreI decided to go to Nerd Rangers after hearing from a friend that her macbook works "good as new and super fast" after she brought it there to have a ton of viruses/malware removed. I figured mine was just as bad, if not worse then hers since even my home page on ALL of my browsers were taken over by a suspicious virus thing that constantly caused pop ups and slowed down my laptop to the point where it was impossible to use.
I called and received a fair quote after describing a bit about the problems I was experiencing with my laptop. The guy who runs the company, Shuaib, was very helpful and professional. He even offered to pick up my laptop the next day on his way downtown which was awesome because I live in countryside and it saved me a drive to Naperville one way. It was ready to be picked up after only 3 working days. I ended up having over 50 types of malware and 30 viruses on mac which he was able to get rid of. He even installed a free anti-malware program that will help prevent future problems. When I went to pick it up he was happy to explain step-by step what he had done to fix the laptop, how the viruses and malware work/ how they infect the whole system, and provided tips on how to keep it running smoothly from now on. I literally thought I was going to have to buy a whole new macbook which I definitely cant afford right now, and it was returned to me feeling like brand new and only cost me about $300 (about a fourth of what a new macbook might cost). I would definitely recommend Nerd Rangers to anyone and would feel comfortable calling them if I had any questions...
Read moreRecently upgraded my home computer. Kept same platform (am4) with new motherboard and processor. Swapped all my hardware, used windows creation tool to reload windows cleanly without deleting my things, hit a snag and attempted to rollback. Reassembled my old system to then create a restore point; I was unable to do so!!!! GAH! Did a Google for data recovery in the area and fell upon "Nerd Rangers". Sounded legit enough. Called and spoke to (do not remember her name, but wife of the owner) and explained my issue. She informed me that there are different tiers of repair/diagnostic fees. Felt the fees were reasonable and that they would contact me if there would be any significant difference in price/work needed. The date of my appointment came. Dropped off my old system, literally in a box, with the drive in question. Since other parts were not needed to attempt the work I just left my drive. After a lovely issue that I caused was told that my files were there but was considered full data recovery which can be quite expensive. With not having any critical things on the drive other than some personal files I opted to just take the drive back and pay the diagnostic fee. The reasonable choice! My fault for not backing up with a restore point. Fantastic service, honest feedback and extremely reasonable. Should I have the need for any critical recovery needs, I wouldn't hesitate to contact Nerd Rangers in the future. I actually passed on their information to a friend that was looking to get back an old HD that contains pictures of hers that she has no...
