I’ve been coming here, reluctantly, for years since Naples has very few options for Korean grocery shopping. But after today’s experience, I will never go back again. As an Asian, I’ve been to hundreds of Asian grocery stores and this one is the very worst one.
Quality: I not infrequently end up throwing away product(s) when I get home because it is not fresh or it’s way past the expiration date.
2: Value: Basic Asian staples such as rice, noodles, soy sauce, fish sauce etc. are cheaper at American grocery stores like Publix than at this store.
Honor/Integrity: often the price will be marked a certain amount but the cashier or the owner watching will say it is a dollar over that amount. Sometimes I don’t know that it’s been marked up until I get home. I also witness, with some frequency, a poor customer trying to return a product for a very good reason and what a difficult time the management gives them. Then they will speak poorly of the customer in a language they don’t understand (which I do).
Rudeness: The employees rarely answer questions even if they speak English and when they do, they are very rude and basically yell as though I am foolish although it’s because their store is so incredibly disorganized. Today after being spoken to very rudely by 3 different employees, I calmly discussed with the front desk woman who spoke fluent English as well as with the woman who is the manager/co-owner. They would not say sorry but said instead that I should be more patient since they all had a hard day and they’re so busy. When I pointed out that there was no one else in the store, they responded that I misunderstood the situation and that I should be a more...
Read moreI went with my dad to this store and I asked the lady many times (about 3), "does this miso have sugar?" because from my experience with living in Japan for 5 years, sometimes some white miso can be sweet and I do not like it. I prefer the salty white miso. She was very rude and brushed me off. Saying, "he doesn't want to buy it." to evade the question. I called her behavior out and said, "ma'am. If you do not know the question, specifically state that you do not know. It's better than flat out ignoring us." I even talked about her behavior to my dad right in front of her and she looked but she didn't care. I don't think they are friendly. They are Korean but I have met Koreans nicer than her. Japanese people are very happy to answer your question to make you satisfied. The store is small, cute and comfortable and we know where to find things for looking around but, just the staff is always rude and low class people. As another person who had the same experience here, don't ask the staff anything about their products. They won't listen to you and you will be ignored. This is also a cultural issue too which can seem very rude to us Americans is that the person usually focuses on the person buying stuff and not people who aren't. They will treat you like you do not exist in this store if you are with someone else and not...
Read moreThis was an interesting place. Got what I needed in the way of groceries, no problem even though I didn't have my glasses on. Picked up some chopsticks too and a nice Sake set caught my eye. I asked the young lady how much it was because I didn't have my glasses on. She looked at it and said 19.99. I said okay, I'll take it. When I got home and looked at the two price tags on the box, they both said 12.99. I was going to make a trip back to browse. Will not bother now. 19.99 is still an okay price and I like what I bought, and maybe she lied because they were hurting for money after covid. I'll get over 7 bucks. That 7 bucks bought them this review. I do lots of asian cooking even in Naples on vacation. I won't bother going to this place again. I don't like being lied to. Or, if you go at least wear your...
