If you are trying to sell a guitar or any gear at this place you are going to leave insulted. I'm not a disgruntled customer I just wanted to relay information to other musicians trying to get a fair price for there gear. This is not your place. I would recommend going down the road a little bit to a pawn shop where I received an offer that was miles better than theres. I brought in a guitar to them to sell and it had a tone switch with a small plastic piece that popped off. The switch still worked and all that needed to be done was to unscrew the old switch and replace with a 6$ generic switch on a hollowbody. They proceeded to tell me that that would cost them 75$ to fix......which is absolutely not true and very shady. The guitar is worth retail 450$ the guitar was absolutely not in bad shape. It's a 20 year old guitar with regular wear. They then told me that they sell for about 300$ according to an old ebay price from years ago. Not multiple sales, just one ebay sale. If that's how they base there worth of guitars then I'm sure it must be very profitable for them, if people trust them, which you shouldnt because one ebay sale does not equal the worth of the guitar. Also, they wont show you it.Anyway,I tell them if that is what they think it's worth then I'll work with them. They pestered me into throwing out the first offer which I refused because I know how that works. Whatever I tell them, it's going to be lower so I told them to throw me an offer which they refused. He told me "we are way off" which is impossible because I never threw a number out. I asked him "so you're gonna offer me around 70$" and he said "yeah, somewhere around there". Let's just think about that for a second. He wants to pay me 70$ for a used retail price of 450-500$ guitar. That's not haggling, that's just disrespectful and immoral. If this is how they do business then I'm astonished that they have customers. People who sell there stuff here must be selling stolen gear or getting rid of stuff for drugs because they treated me like I would just accept such a disrespectful offer. I was in no way mean or even confrontational. I just stood my ground and would not accept there obviously shady tactics. I feel sorry for people who trust these guys. It's in a shady part of town so I'm sure they are used to shady people but I'm not, I live in the gulch and play in bands and have a wife and kids. I felt like I was treated like a druggie pawning stolen stuff for a fix. He felt that I wasnt going to accept nothing for my guitar and cut the deal short because I knew the worth of my guitar. In no circumstance would a 450$ guitar be sold for 70$ unless someone was trying to buy drugs with it or it was stolen. Even there evaluation of 300$ was fine but how they came to the conclusion that it was worth 70$ is beyond me. They used every shady pawn shop tactic in the book which I was already privy to. So they got me out of there to make room for some heroin junkie with some stolen guitar. I dont care if you brought in a pristine 60s strat , they would tell you it was scratched and that a missing plastic knob would cost them 300$ to replace. even though they pay guitar techs by the hour so 60$ hourly wage to fix is a lie. They say that they have been in business for awhile and that equates to credibility, it does not. People who actually sell stuff here have to be down on luck or junkies, they are basically a shady pawn shop and even the scummiest pawn shops stay open. If you want a fair price for gear then dont come here. If you want to basically donate gear to them then this is the place for you. Anyway, I happily left and went 5 minuites down the road to a pawn shop. I was there 20 minutes and walked out with 220$ and a pawn ticket in case i wanted to buy it back. I'm telling you, if you want to sell a guitar GO TO A PAWN SHOP, DO NOT GO HERE!! it says on a sign outside, "we buy your gear" but the honest truth is "we pay nothing for your gear" . Very dishonest, very shady, they gang up on you. 3 or 4 employees surrounding you chiming in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI see the one post where they are trying to act like there is a race issue here saying I dont know if it was because we are old colored men or not. Im sorry but that tells me you 2 old men are very racist someone has a bad day at work and the first thing is its because im black is why they are not kissing my rear end. At this store this is not true at all they have never treated me or any of my colored band mates in this matter I am colored. But funny I guarantee that the 2 old colored dudes are very racist and just looking for a excuse like most of the black folk in my community its always someone elses fault its always the white isnt it. Thats funny because last I check the white man kept a roof over my head for free gave me free food aka food stamps gave me free health care gave me free money and then gave me free schooling paid for in full minority scholarship, so that now I make 6 figure paychecks. So let me guess its the white mans fault you dont get off your butt and go to school and then go to work right. Im so sick of this double standard its ok for us but not ok if a white dude does it right wake black community your a fool if you dont you have more of a opprotunity that any white man because you have complained for so long we have the upper hand I feel sorry for my white friends they had to work a full time job and go to school and there pay for there school and you get it all for free it just makes me sick because it makes black people look stupid and bad and then as soon as a white person behind the counter is having a bad day oh oh oh ooohhh they are racist no you are racist. Let me guess you where all talking in your getto talk and then wanted a good response thats one thing I dis like about old colored folks you got your head so far up ur self centered arse that you are blind to the truth our ancestors you know the ones that were real slaves would slap anyone of use black folk that act like that expecially the ones that act like your still a slave and are all talking about we still slaves no you know nothing about being a slave we get free every thing. Anyways sorry for long text I refuse to let 2 old racist dude give yall a bad name, BECAUSE YOUR SERVICE IS AWESOME YOU TREAT US LIKE WE ARE FAMOUS WHEN WE WALK IT YOU GOT GREAT GEAR FOR A GREAT PRICE. And for the ones selling equipment what do you expect they have to make money so say if the normal sell used is say $100 you are not going to get 100 for it that means they are going to stay equal I mean do these people not understand it takes money to stay open, they need to make 3 times what they have in it really and I know they dont make quit that but really for a item that sells for 100 they only need to pay 25 for it. business 101 hello, then you act insulted thats a insult to them that you want the used sell price so you get paid 100 for them to store it and then break...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis store has a good vibe and the employees are nice when selling products. The worst experience Iāve had in this store is selling instruments and equipment to them. They've bought from me on two different occasions now, with different employees working the sales - and I will never sell to them again.
The first time I brought in a DW snare drum along with some other percussion instruments. Particularly with the snare I wanted $250, and they offered me $200 and were firm - their reasoning being that they were going to sell it for $300. Clearly stated during the conversation. I came back a week later to browse and it was marked at $400.
The second time I brought in a Godin A6 guitar. I asked for $500, they offered $400, but met me at $450 - their reasoning being that it would be sold for $600. I walked in today and the price tag is over $1000.
I understand that selling to businesses like this comes at a cost, Iāve worked in secondhand music retail and understand the margins. What Iām not okay with is the blatant lies from multiple employees just so they can close a sale. This is the last time Iāll have anything to do with this store and hope that anyone else selling products to them doesnāt get lied to the same way I did.
EDIT: After seeing their reply, it seems my message wasn't conveyed well. Put simply: By lying to close a sale multiple times, it seems the regular practice is to take advantage of people who are assuming the best in someone else's character.
The store took advantage of me twice, so the second time is on me - I assumed the best in someone's character, but they found information about my items that I didn't find in prior research and capitalized on it. I'm hoping that by reading this there can be a learning experience for the people involved in future sales - on both sides of the...
