Pretty awesome. Not much like it around here, either. 10/10.
Edit on 3/18/21: Okay, the above review was done lazily. I really want to dig into why I think this is a 10/10, and since a lot of time has passed, it definitely isn't a novelty that I got sick of. Far from it.
First, there's a ton of food in this box. No matter what pizza you get, it's a heavy boy. It would be a challenge to consume an entire pizza. Also, the pizza is square. Square is a mathematically superior shape to a triangle when attempting to hold something loaded with toppings. Just ask Pythagoras (you will need a Ouija board to communicate with him at this point, though).
Second, their more experimental pizzas are unreal. You think you know pizza toppings? You don't know JACK until you've had a pizza with lettuce, special sauce, pickles, onions and sesame seeds. That's a love letter if I've ever seen one (and to the people saying it's illegal, no. It isn't illegal to throw familiar ingredients onto a pizza. You guys need better fast food lawyers).
Third, it's zero hassle. Order online, they tell you when to expect it, you go pick it up, and the whole process takes like 10 seconds. The more socially adverse people I hang out with love that they don't have to call a place to place a pizza order. This should be industry standard now.
I don't know much about Detroit outside of Eminem and the bygone days of American automobile dominance, but they certainly know how to make pizza interesting again. After all this time has passed, this place is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe North End has never looked so old. The specialty pizzas "manufactured" by Square MFG Co are nothing short of culinary genius. If this isn't, what is?
Let's get right to it. Here's the rundown of everything I've tried off their menu rated on a 10-point scale.
Suparoni: 10+ / 10
Carnitas Street Tacos (Pizza): 10+ / 10
Shrimp & Grits (Pizza): 10+ / 10
Buffalo Chicken Deluxe: 10+ / 10
Luau: 10 / 10
Mushaboom: 9 / 10
Veggie: 8 / 10
CBGB: 8 Out of 10
Bone-In Wings (Classic Buffalo): 7 / 10
Note that amongst the top 4 or 5 pizzas on the list above I can't choose a favorite. They're all just so damn good.
Many of the reviews for Square MFG Co center on debate regarding Detroit vs. New York style pizza - forget about this. This is not a matter of one style being superior to the other. Instead, Square MFG Co's brilliance comes from their ability to use Detroit style pizza crust as a vehicle to layer elegantly crafted flavor combinations derived from a large variety of often non-traditional toppings - something you just can't do well with a NY style pizza. The end results are numerous specialty pizzas that are so far beyond anything we've commonly referred to as pizza.
(P.S. to Square MFG Co - I can't wait to try the pizza you're developing next... The Newburg: Newburg sauce flavored with cognac topped with Comte and Taleggio cheeses, Shallots, and Lobster (or maybe just shrimp), finished with a white truffle oil. LOL? It'll only cost $50 a slice... make it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDelicious pizza and is a nice change in type of pizza from what is around here. Even though it is a deeper pizza, they arenāt extremely heavy or greasy which I like. The dough is light and tastes fresh. I rotate between here and Roccoās as they are my two favorites in the area and give you a nice variety.
There are a lot of interesting flavors which I like. The Fig & Pig is hands down my favorite out of the 4 types Iāve tried so far but I have enjoyed them all. The fig adds a unique flavor and a nice balance of sweet and savory. I also would recommend Truffle Mushroom, BBQ Brisket and BBQ Chicken Bacon. I did feel the BBQ Brisket could have had a few more toppings, and the chicken was maybe a little dry on the BBQ chicken but still very good.
The one menu item I personally would caution against is the wings as they were quite a letdown for me. I love hot honey but the Hot Honey wings were very plain and all the honey just pooled at the bottom of the container and didnāt stick to the wings. The Jamaican jerk wings were slightly better but the sauce tasted like it was from a bottle. The quality of the bone-in wings themself were also lacking.
Note: I would also really recommend signing up for their rewards as they might be the most generous rewards for a restaurant Iāve seen (10% back every purchase). It also helps that you order locally online through their website instead of through other online...
