For years I had been searching for a small dining table in a dark, earthy brown. I wanted it to pull in history like a whirlwind, kick up the raw smell of dirt, tumble the rugged American West into the rustic Spanish countryside. Maybe I have a weakness for marketing. But Pier 1 Imports and Crate & Barrel had lured me with their romantically named “Arapaho” and “Basque” furniture sets. The problem was, like a lot of major retailers, they did not offer such dining tables in smaller sizes. I kept looking. Finally, this summer I came across the website of Saltwoods. At last, a local studio that lets you customize every element from dimensions, to wood species, to color! The variety of choices is amazing. I picked a stain called “tobacco” on white oak and the vision of my Basque table was complete. Now my dining area is so warm and inviting – I feel there’s a fireplace even when there isn’t. The food and wine taste better. It was impressive, too, that despite global shortages of raw material and labor, the production was completed sooner than projected. The price fit my budget and the entire Saltwoods team was a pleasure to deal with. They worked with me to get the details just right, and really seem to take pride in their work. The guys who made the table also delivered it. Customer service is first class. I’m so happy to have found this studio. It’s now one of the first places I shop when I need something special. I hope you check...
Read moreSaltwoods Saves the Day! My wife and I have recently finished a major overhaul of our kitchen. The final piece was a new, custom made table to fit a uniquely shaped alcove with two banquettes. This is an additional challenge because you don’t want to hit table legs every time you sit in the banquette. We first attempted to work with a designer who led us down a long and winding (and expensive) road only to find ourselves standing on the side of it with a table that tipped over with the slightest pressure. Imagine eating breakfast and lunch on a three legged table for the rest of your life! So once we tossed that table out, we had to start over. Fortunately, my wife found Saltwoods. The entire process was handled virtually, via email. Not even a phone call was required. We picked the table out on-line with some expert help from our contacts, Dan and Ryan, and from the very beginning we felt confident we knew what we were going to get, when and for how much. Long story short, the table arrived today - on time and on budget. It's beautiful as you can tell, fits the space perfectly, is absolutely rock solid from every angle and cost about half the price of our original, unfortunate selection. Go to Saltwoods for your custom furniture needs. You'll be...
Read moreFrom start to finish we’ve had a wonderful experience with Dan and his team at Saltwoods. They built 4 pieces for us — a kitchen table from reclaimed oak, a dining room table of black walnut, and a live edge coffee table made of English elm (with a hall table made of the “leftover” portion of that slab). Each piece is beautiful in its own way though the live edge coffee table is simply a show-stopper: a stunning, one of a kind piece of furniture that I could stare at for hours. For that one Dan helped us pick out the slab from Berkshire Products and guided us all the way through the process. He was equally helpful with the other pieces.
I love that the same people who make the furniture also do the deliveries so they can see how their finished work fits in the space. They take such obvious and justified pride in their craft — it’s a joy to see. And there’s a satisfaction of supporting local artisans that can’t be matched by purchasing from a traditional store. Finally, considering the beauty of the finished product, Saltwoods prices its work very reasonably. This is furniture to last and be admired...
