My doctors were VERY rude and unprofessional. Some staff is nice but some is horrible. Coney Island hospital psychiatric aka South Brooklyn Health behavioral department includes psych ER, inpatient unit, and the outpatient program. To be admitted to the psych ER you will have to wait hours in the regular ER and you might have to deal with an obnoxious psychiatrist who conducts an evaluation. Beware of Dr. Arkady Barenboim, a repulsive specimen with a superiority complex. This is someone who is intolerant and has anger management issues. He will yell at you, accuse you of faking, demand you speak to him in a certain manner and body position, and even his language of preference! He will also give you unasked for inappropriate personal advice in a tone that says 'You are nothing and I know better because I am somebody here and can do and say whatever I want'. He is likely not the only one acting like this, because other reviews and patients mention same behavior from psychiatrists at this hospital. After you are admitted to the psych ER, it might get better, but you might have to deal with a couple of judgmental and rude staff members. They might humiliate you and make it impossible for you to go to the bathroom, constantly knocking on door and demanding you perform in 2 minutes. You might have to wait a couple of days before you are transferred to the inpatient. At the inpatient, you will have to deal with some okay nurses and some horrible ones who group together and act like they are at a party. You will recognize them because they are always talking loudly and laughing in a group, flirting with each other. They also flirt with patients they like and spend extra time with them. When they have no friends working the same shift, they'll be on their phone ignoring you and acting like you are a bother if you ask for something, snapping for no reason. Unless you are one of their favorites of course. These nurses yell at patients who have done nothing and spark conflict. Then they yell at patients and punish them. No one really cares about why you are there and what struggles you are having in life. If anything happens, they will defend each other no matter what. They will try to convince you you are wrong, or well just crazy. So keep your fingers crossed your stay at Coney Island psych and interactions with their staff won't make things WORSE for you. On the walls, there are numbers for a lawyer and insurance you can call to complain, but don't expect the staff to inform you of that and your basic rights. They won't even give you full basic information about your stay. You'll have to figure most stuff on your own because they have no time for you, as in they do have the time but not the desire to explain things to every new patient. You'll have to ask yourself about things and for things most of the time. The outpatient is below average. Good luck finding a psychiatrist there who cares and has real experience with serious matters. They might be nicer to you compared to the ER and inpatient, but it is mostly all surface to keep you on long-term as a paying patient. If your psychiatrist dismisses you and what's important to you, difficult for you, triggers your trauma, ask to change psychiatrists right away, although there might not be good psychiatrists at Coney Island hospital at all. If a psychiatrist at the ER is rude to you, ask to see another one. They might say you'll have to wait a long time to see another one, but that's not necessarily true. They just don't want to be bothered and don't want to hold their doctors accountable. Speak up and don't believe everything they say. You don't have to be nice to people who are not nice to you and are making it worse for you by their insensitivity and incompetence, while they are supposed to be professionals providing a service, a mental health service of all things! File a complaint after your stay/visit, but be prepared. Their so-called patient representatives are instructed to minimize patients' complaints. Ideally complain to an external...
Read moreI had been at this hospital for 10 days, I didn’t have any mental illness, but i left there with, paranoid schizophrenia, with ear and brain buzzing, shouting rockets in to my brain. It was like a jail, they kept us like criminals. No love, no attention, only take your meds, eat and sleep, get yelled at, i have a sculpt ex tray, it’s showing there are wires and 3 chips onmy throat, around my ears wires, there are some chips and shaped like microphone on my spinal bulb!!! I have badly night mares, shouting rockets, stars, sands, there are people speaking in to my brain and ears they are doctors, can able to show me how to read extrays and they are all accusing each others, which device had been put by who, i have all of the doctors jobs and names, they are saying at the RUMC hospital behind the doors the nurses are raping us.They assigned me as schizophrenic. They know that i have knowledge about all of these but still forcing me to use the meds. But these meds are not working for nothing at all. They all need to be arrested!! In my sleep they are shouting voices, speaking and giving me the knowledges, i think all of the doctors have wars to each other and they are saying, they’re doing samething to us too, but I don’t want to be in the middle of this war. It’s none of my business. In my country I don’t feel sick or im really pretty person. But when i come to USA the fainting, dizziness, joint pains won’t stop at all, im in bad all the time, they are saying we all did something, we are only studying! Im not a research rat.    Read moreif i could give zero stars i would. i was suffering from generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder. went to the er over 6 times to see a psychiatrist immediately, was prescribed atarax and sent home. said it was normal anxiety and panic attacks. gave me xanax a few times and sent me on my way. said there was nothing they can do to help. as for the emergency room psychiatrist, he lacks empathy or patience. every time he saw me at the er again, he borderline rolled his eyes and asked me what i am doing there again. FIND A BETTER PSYCHIATRIST. don't be in a field like that if you hate your job so much. to deal with people with mental health issues, you have to be patient and kind. i was nothing but kind given the circumstances. i just needed help. i was losing it. regardless, the atarax they sent me home with didn't work, had panic attacks every second of every day. i was sleep deprived for 10 days. finally said i was having suicidal thoughts JUST to be taken seriously and was admitted in inpatient behavioral health unit. was put on a floor with other people for DAYS waiting for a bed upstairs to see a psychiatrist. nurses do NOT care about you. the only thing you have in holding area waiting is a tv waiting for the time to pass. transferred to maimonides inpatient unit and even if they aren't as new or advanced like this hospital is, they cared deeply about their patients and showed it. i would recommend going there for mental health help. this place...
