Second update: Today, June 24, 2023, a few minutes from midnight, the noise from Tsob Tsobe was continuing to blast into my apartment and into the entire neighborhood for that matter. When the manager, Michael, and I spoke a couple of weeks ago he told me that the restaurant had a right to play loud music until 11:00 p.m. I then pointed out to him that the law in NY City prohibits unreasonable noise at any time and that 11:00 p.m. is not a touchstone. Anyway, today the music was blasting well past this artificial deadline. I called Michael just now and pointed out the lateness of the hour but he defended the noise by proclaiming that the restaurant is hosting a "private party." I told him that it's not private if I can hear it from half a city block away through double insulated windows.
Update: Someone from this restaurant, presumably the owner Vadim, replied to the review I posted weeks ago, apologized for the loud music, and assured me that would "look into it." I wonder where the owner "looked." Nothing has changed since I posted my review: as I write this the so-called music continues to blast from the restaurant at a hemorrhagic level. I called the restaurant and spoke again with its manager, Mike aka Michael. Mike shut the restaurant's entrance door and this did reduce the volume of noise reaching me. He promised to try to keep the door in a shut rather than open position from now on. A few minutes after I spoke with Mike the noise returned at a full-blast level. I called Mike and he declared that since guests come and go, it is not really possible to monitor the door continuously. He thereby conceded that this "solution" was not reliable.
Initial review: I've eaten here several times and the food and service are good. But, after taking a break for a couple of years, the restaurant resumed the practice of using a band that plays unbearably loud "music" on weekend nights. Even though I live half a block away the noise is intense. I went inside the restaurant tonight to complain and the noise was deafening: staff literally could not hear me and we had to step outside just to have a conversation. The restaurant's manager, named Mike, promised to reduce the volume but if he did the difference is negligible. A restaurant that is destroying my neighborhood does not deserve any...
Read moreHello, I would like to share my experience at this restaurant. I first visited back in 2018 and everything was wonderful. When I decided to come again in 2025, the service was still warm, and the waiter (a gentleman) was very welcoming and attentive. Because of that, I recommended this place to my friends and followers, as I have a small audience on Instagram. Later, I decided to visit for the third time with my close family.
Unfortunately, this time the experience was very different. The waitress was extremely rude — when our children happened to walk near the restroom or the stage, she spoke to us in a very harsh manner, even though I was already asking my child to stay seated. I eventually gave him cartoons to watch, and he stayed in place, but we still felt the judgmental looks throughout our meal.
When I ordered a lunch set, it included soup and a main course. I was served kharcho soup, but unfortunately, it was extremely greasy, with mostly bones instead of meat — it felt like it was made of just fat and bones. I politely asked if it could be replaced, explaining that it was too oily, but the waitress responded very rudely and firmly said no, in a disrespectful tone and manner. I ended up ordering another soup separately at my own cost, simply not wanting to ruin the evening further.
By the time the main course arrived, we couldn’t even enjoy it anymore because the atmosphere was completely spoiled. I felt very uncomfortable in front of my family, as I had chosen to bring them here — especially after I had spoken so highly of this place.
It is very important to monitor staff behavior, because experiences like this can make loyal guests hesitate to return. This restaurant used to be one of my favorites, but unfortunately, this visit has left me...
