You'll pay through the nose but they'll get it done. I needed my passport renewed for a trip I had in a week (my fault entirely for letting it expire). The passport office was so booked that they wouldn't let me stand in line. I called them for an entire day, each time being told "we have no appointments available anywhere in the country." The passport people even said "we don't know any third parties that can make it work, since they wouldn't be able to get appointments either."

I called a few third party places and EPE in Williamsburg had an opening and charged less than other places. I was sweating bullets for a week but sure enough on the day before my trip, I showed up and they handed me my new passport. I asked how they did it. "we reserve slots ahead of time."...
