The ambiance of the shop is very welcoming. The hairstylist were pleasant and polite. I met Kyra and Alicia during my visit. They are both beautiful, strong women of color. They require the use of their homemade hair care products which is now on market for sale. The ingredients are pronounceable and made with the natural hair in mind.
Upon my arrival, my husband and I had to complete a short form which asked about our hair management techniques and what we wanted that day. I wanted the 2 strand twist ($85+) and he wanted his locks twisted ($90+ for palm twist; $150+ for interlock). What the cost includes: hair wash, scalp scrub (felt like I was in a hair spa, it was wonderful, my scalp was in heaven), deep condition with steam treatment, air dry, then style with their natural products. They trimmed my hair, I needed it badly but they didn't inform me ahead of time that it was gonna be done. This came with an additional charge of $20 (shaping fee). So be careful to be upfront if you didn't come with enough money to cover all the added expenses. They take card in case you didn't come with enough cash. Be mindful, the card payment machine has a 4% upcharge. My hair looked good but my pockets were hurting as the total bill for me and my husband with tax and tip came to $297.
As for my husband we asked for the palm twist as it was cheaper. The stylist wanted to show us the interlock technique which was interesting, less messy and only required a Bobby pin. Unfortunately she forgot to stop and revert back to palm twist so we was charged for the interlock.
They scheduled us for a 6 week return for my husband, palm twist (I'll make sure this happens next time lol) and 3 weeks for myself. They have a professional setup. I love the fact that they treat the hair and teach you how to treat your own grade of hair. They are far from the Dominican hair salons (wam bam thank you mam). You will get your hair and scalp treated. Enjoyed the experience. Looking forward to my next appointment with the...
Read moreWent and got my first haircut at Nubian Hair Studio and although I wasnât nervous or scared, the atmosphere was extremely comforting. The staff were super professional from the moment I step inside.
My hair was so damaged and in such bad condition. I had been wearing a wig for a couple of months and I did not pay my hair underneath ANY attention. I called beforehand and warned them about the mess that they were about to witness, and I even offered to wash and semi treat my hair before the appointment but the lady on the other end of the phone recommended not to. She said she wants to see my hair in the condition that it was in, so that sheâll have a better feel of what to recommendable products to suggest. I was starting my natural healthy hair journey and I expressed that I wanted to embrace my curly hair pattern once I got there. At first, because of damaged and everything bad that could happen to my hair, happenedâŚlooking at it, it seemed like I had no curl pattern. I did the big CHOP and I was so happy with the results. The style that watched my hair, really WASHED my hair. She didnât do the norm, 2 shampoo and 1 condition. My hair was so dry that it needed way more than that. Her knowledge about hair was enough, because I didnât have to inform about giving me a thorough wash. And trust me, I usually have to.
I was very pleased with the results and the only reason why I gave them a 3 is because my best friend who have done several chops and have been on the natural hair journey for about 4 years wasnât impressed with the results. She thought the cut was âtoo unevenâ. From my perspective, I went into the salon not really knowing what I wanted. And by the time I left, I was embracing my natural hair look. My hair is so much cleaner, healthier and I can feel it getting stronger. Because of this, I...
Read moreI called to make an appointment and positive first impression. Person who picked up was pleasant on the phone. I went because I've been trying to transition on my own but nothing I've tried seem to be working. I needed some help from a professional. Found Nubian by searching online.
When I went in, I had to wait a bit as other customers were finishing up. When it was my turn, I filled out a form about my concerns and the hair stylist talked through everything with me. She was knowledgeable and it was reassuring.
She did a clarifying shampoo and detox. Looking at the before and after pics of my scalp, it was a huge difference. My scalp was a brighter pink, hair strands were shiner, and less itchiness. At the end, the stylist braided my hair and recommend a product. I would go back again.
I wish the stylist had formerly introduced herself but I learned her name from watching during checkout (Alicia). Also, there were only two stylist and about 3-4 customers, so they got backed up. Spent about 2.5 hours doing wash, detox, steam treatment, trim, blow dry, and braiding. Lastly, I felt $65 was a little much for the short trim that I had for my relaxed ends. My hair is pretty short and I have a small head (lol) so it seemed a bit pricey to me. But my hair is shining and feels nice and light for the first time in a LONG time
I will definitely go back in about a...
