Olive Tree, formally Miggy’s (THE BEST!), has declined sharply the past two years or so. The prices are good and sales are usually better. But what good are sales and reasonable prices when the quality is horrible? Bought ground beef one night here a few weeks ago, and it looked perfectly fresh and pink. Brought it home straight from the store (a 3 minute drive). Went to cook it the very next afternoon and the underside, that I couldn’t see while in it’s styrofoam container, was completely black. Absolutely rotten and black. I just thought this was a fluke and perhaps the plastic covering the meat had a small tear or hole, so I didn’t write off Olive Tree completely. I’ve also gotten sandwiches that (as advertised) say $4.99 for any meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato, all with a free soda or water. The three times I’ve ordered a sandwich here, they’ve never had soda cans in stock and charge for a 20oz bottle, and my sandwich has NEVER been $4.99. I’ve been told salami isn’t included so add $2 (after they made it, of course), they only had Boars Head turkey so it’s an extra $1.50 (didn’t ask for Boars, not my fault), and ham with mustard is an extra $.50 as well (although free mustard is available in packets). As someone who’s worked in a family owned business for years, I find the dishonesty appalling. This morning was the icing on the cake. Ordered 3 bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches (like we do every single Sunday), and opened them up when we got home to find barely any egg, and a half piece of each cheese and bacon on each sandwich. Literally, a half piece of bacon on the bottom of each roll. A. Half. Piece. Of. Cheese. How can business be conducted this way? Olive Tree will no longer get any of mine or my families business. I can’t support a mom and pop business that looks to make a fool of...
Read moreI want to love this place. It sits in a bit of a food desert and I need to go twice the distance to get to another grocery.
First off their pre-made hot food is good and at a fair price. They have to start washing the lettuce before making the salads, though. On the few occasions I bought them, it felt like I was chewing on sand.
They do seem to have trouble selling products before they go bad, particularly the produce; and they leave it out longer than they should. Put things on sale when they get close to expiring.
Overall the prices on the shelves are kind of high. I'm always a bit shocked when I get to the register. I get inflation is a cause but it seems higher than other stores. Maybe they know they are the only grocer in the area.
They are also not always great at keeping the shelves stocked.
The employees are all great. Friendly and helpful.
All in all it's ok. I think slightly better management of stock and a little better prices would make a...
Read moreI had previously written a scathing review, but oh my how things have changed... I now order delivery and it is just terrific! The Weekly Circular posts on friday and I email my order.. The store acknowledges receipt and depending on time I order, Abigail or another employee will call and go over order and advise of delivery time which is followed by delivery woman, yes a woman, calling when she arrives.. the order is in open box and free reusable bag is available. They try to be accommodating and customer friendly. Meatball parm hero has very tasty meatballs, although skimpy on cheese, and is enough for 2 meals for me.. Salads, cold cuts, potato croquettes, and prepared meals are good.. Produce is fresh and the best.. I don't buy meat, but my family members highly recommend. Weekly sales are the best, as is Senior Citizen discount. I'm lovin the Portugese bread and knishes.. So glad I gave it a second chance and...
