Pelham Bay Bridge — Local services in New York

Lovely area, the view from the bridge is quite nice (from walking perspective). It is usually pretty clean. However, it is narrow and can be a bit dangerous. Sometime between the end of 2021 and 2022 the signs that instructed bicycle riders to dismount and walk their bikes across the span of the bridge were removed. This is certainly not a wide enough walk/bike path to ride safely. The signs need to be put back and enforced. There have been hostile riders yelling at pedestrians and also riders who had terrible falls (riding over) after hitting bumps. It's a simple thing, and DOT needs to address it. There are many individuals who enjoy daily exercise/outings and it needs to be made as safe as possible until upgrades are finally done (let's hope because there is a plan in the works). We can also hope that the people using the bridge will be more respectful of fellow walkers/ bikers. No one should be afraid to walk in this area. This bridge absolutely sucks from a cycling or bicycling perspective. I've been through here several times on non-summer weekends. There is no traffic. It does not need to be 2 lanes each way. One lane each way is sufficient and is certainly sufficient on weekends. It will last longer if its only one lane each way.

My reviews tend to be bike oriented. I don't own a car but will rent one on vacations. If this perspective interests you. You may want to follow my reviews. Google Maps does not have a keyword for bike or biking. Why is that?

Have found out during summer traffic snarls the bridge and that will be good for cycling. It won't be good if the bridge is up. The traffic will likely make for crazed drivers which is not good for cycling.
