Planet Fitness — Local services in New York

Good evening, I am a current black card member of planet fitness along with a few family and friends. The first week we started working out there we found it very pleasant, friendly staff, cleanly with everything in good condition, we all felt great finally getting the tools and space needed to help each of us on our unique Journeys. By the next week however we noticed inconsistencies with a few of the rules the staffs seemed so very strict with and from there ever since many problems arised. For example; Using the massage area, both me and my daughter (the guest on my card) used theses equipments the entire time without any problem, till one day new staff came in and informed us ( including the rest ) all of a sudden that we cannot and should not be using them at the same time, that all card hodlers have to use them before their guests, which we thought was strange, however, we did comply and just did as we were told. In the following weeks we noticed other things such as ( which were very frequent) out of order machines and a decrease in cleanliness. Also, some of the new staff members were a bit unfriendly and rude except from one particular young woman who worked there with a soft pleasent voice. We only spent 1-2 hours at most at the gym so we never really felt a need to report any of this but eventually it started to bother us. (None of these problems has been fixed) Lastly, due to us being so new at using many of the equipments we found out that we were using them incorrectly which could end up injuring us, after learning this we went to the staff to seek help by asking for a trainer/ gym coach and how to apply or find one. They just said some nonsense knowing that we had not a clue what they were talking about and gave us a smile as if all were fixed. Folks we are still waiting for their helpful response on the first step to take inorder to get what we asked for. Anyways, due their arrogance we got fed up and went to a friend who had offered to help us prior this, he gas been working out for years and knows what he's doing when instructing others, so he's quiet popular at the gym for his little tips, with him we were finally locked in and putting in the work, even seeing results.We were on a roll. Shortly after maybe a day or two we started feeling uneasy as if we were being watched. SPOILER ALERT! We were. The staff had been watching us for days and saw the help he was giving us and a few others. Long story short, they recently canceled him which felt like a punch to the gut and now our routine is messed up and our progress is moving slow. Inconsistent Rules & Uncomfortable Experience

I travel frequently and visit different Planet Fitness locations, so I understand that policies can vary. However, my experience at this location was incredibly frustrating due to inconsistent enforcement of rules and poor customer service.

My first visit was great—friendly staff, a welcoming atmosphere, and no issues working out. I brought a guest, and while I was told only one Black Card member could use the spa at a time, they still allowed us both access. I found the rule strange but appreciated the accommodation.

The second visit, however, was a disaster. From the moment I walked in, the energy was completely different. I wasn’t greeted like before, which set the tone. I placed my jacket in the front locker and proceeded to the gym floor with my gym bag, which contained essential workout accessories—items I used with no issue during my first visit.

Mid-workout, a man in a sweatsuit approached me, only identifying himself as a manager after shaking my hand mid-set. He informed me that gym bags weren’t allowed on the floor. Though surprised (since I had my bag out the previous visit with no issue), I complied and placed it in the locker room downstairs, forcing me to adjust my entire workout.

I returned to the cables upstairs and continued using the gym’s attachments. Then, I was interrupted again. Another employee stopped me mid-set because I had taken off my hoodie and hung it on the cable machine’s hook. Meanwhile, I noticed other gym-goers doing the same thing without being approached. At this point, I felt targeted and frustrated. I pointed out the inconsistency, received a dismissive smile, and continued my workout while feeling watched the entire time.

When I went downstairs to finish my workout, I saw both employees following me. At this point, I felt so uncomfortable and profiled that I decided to leave. On my way out, I noticed broken machines, trash on the floor, and boxes scattered around. How does a brand-new gym already have malfunctioning equipment and cleanliness issues while the staff focuses on micromanaging members?

If this location wants to enforce strict policies, they need to be consistent and ensure the facility is actually well-maintained. The lack of professionalism, selective enforcement of rules, and uncomfortable atmosphere make this Planet Fitness a hard pass. Never had issues until today i walked in by accident did not scan and i felt someone staring at me. I looked and said oh i forgot to scan. Scanned and went about my business. Then i went on the machine and recorded a video of myself. I would NEVER put anybody in my video ever. Then some little boy came up to me and said i cant record in here or play music. ( when i recorded my 10 sec video music was playing ) i said i never heard those before and went to the manager and asked where it says i cant record. He showed me a policy that said recording privileges can be taken away but no where did it say i cannot record which ive been doing forever. Im not one of those gym influencers check my @leomileoni i barely share at all. He said he can cancel my membership i said do it i been meaning to but i cant. Then he checked and saw its in florida. Then i told him to call the cops. I want yall to cancel my membership please!!!! I only go here because i cant cancel unless i go to fl!! So yeah.
