Josaiah replaced the fence in our backyard in Bed Stuy, and built a raised deck for seating. We've had significant work done on our home since we moved in, and I've noticed the differences between contractors. Largely, there are the ones who overpromise and underdeliver, and then the ones who overdeliver. I would certainly put Josaiah in the latter category. Attention to detail, meticulous work, strong technical knowledge, appreciation for budget and respect for timing, total ownership, and candor, are how I would characterize his work. He suggested some great changes to the fence and deck design, put in a lip on both for LED lights, and thought through mitigation for a pesky Japanese knotweed problem we have. He also built a very sturdy L shaped bench for which he suggested a design that was more practical and safer than the one we had.

He is not the cheapest, but as someone who initially shopped for the cheapest on certain larger jobs at our house, I have learned that it's better to get something extremely reliable and sturdy, than to start repairs and mitigation a couple of years after installation. In our exploration of options, he came out right in the middle.

I would highly recommend him for your backyard needs, and I would certainly...

We used Built To Last Hardscapes to replace our old cedar fence. From the first day of contact Josiah was professional and responsive. He showed up on time for our initial appointment, explained the process as well as our various options and then supplied a written estimates for the fence giving us different options for the type of wood we would use. The estimates included a breakdown by materials, labor and demolition of the old fence. We eventually decided on a very durable hardwood called Cumaru and scheduled the work. The crew showed up on time every day they worked, worked hard and completed the job a day earlier than originally estimated. The crew even reset a couple of bluestones in the back of our yard at no additional charge. During the entire time communication was excellent, with questions and concerns addressed in a timely manner. We were very pleased with the entire process and have no reservations recommending Built To Last Hardscapes for...

We worked with Built To Last last summer on a full blown backyard renovation at our brownstone in Bed Stuy. From our very first meeting / at home consultation to the final day of work, Josiah and his brother Jesse (plus Ryan, on their crew) were incredible. First of all, they have a great attention to detail (I am very detail oriented and it’s hard to find truly quality work these days! They exceed expectations!) They are responsive, helpful and skilled - really good “partners” on a project. They are also super honest and transparent (advising us on options based upon our budget - if even it meant using someone else for a part of the project.) They completed our fence quickly and worked diligently - even in the crazy August heat! And last, but not least, they’re just nice guys - polite, respectful and easy going. Their prices are beyond fair and they’re worth EVERY penny. Couldn’t...

I worked with Built To Last as contractors on the hardscaping for my Brooklyn townhouse backyard, based on a plan from a landscape designer, and they did an amazing job bringing it all to life. They were easy to work with and clearly knew what they were doing. The fences, pavers, brickwork and gravel were all installed with care and attention to detail. They handled site challenges (like working around a large existing tree and tight access) smoothly, with great communication. They strove to carry out the plan as faithfully as possible, but also offered suggestions whenever needed. The crew kept things organized and clean throughout the process, and the final result is an amazing space I actually want to spend time in, thanks to the quality of their work. If you’ve got a landscape design and need a solid team to build it out, I’d definitely recommend Josiah, Jessie, and their whole crew.
