I had such a terrible experience at this location. I didn't like what I saw of customer service. I think that they still have a lot to learn as a company of how to treat all guests equal.
I spent over an hour picking out my items and then waited in probably a 15 minute check out line. they don't have a separate section for returns and exchanges. Why as a huge name company you wouldn't have a separate section for those issues, I don't understand
In that time, I saw a huge difference in how they treated Caucasian customers to black and brown customers and I was of no exception to the kind of prejudice I saw. But there were definitely Caucasian ladies whom didn't even have the receipts for returns that were being catered to and such a way that was amazing to me. They were helping them price check, they were going above and beyond for them. AI thought thats how I would be treated. That every other person could expect that A1 customer service....However that amazement was shattered when I noticed how black and brown people were treated which was not even a greeting - pretty much ignored until time for payment. And it really made me feel a little sick inside. And my experience was no better.
When I stepped up the man barely acknowledged me he basically just took my items didn't say anything to me he started to fold them up and scan them ask me if I wanted a bag. I said yes but noted the price was different then what I saw advertised he said that "those items were new" I told him "they were under the sign that says that those dresses for $24". I don't think he really was listening to me.
He then started showing me how much it would be if I applied for a JCP card which was frustrating. This had nothing to do with applying for a credit card. He didn't investigate the dress at all. I told him I had a JCP card already and I wasn't going to pay that price. He said you want them? I said not for that price, I told him I didn't want them, he seemed annoyed but its not my fault...it was advertised one way and ended up being completely different. He said was a new item, how would I know that when the sign said all Arizona dressed were that price?
I was also buying a ring. I said that I would just take the ring. As he rang it up, I told him I didn't want the box. All I asked of this man is if he could take the ring from the box because I wanted to wear it out. And again I don't even think he heard me...cuz he was saying "show it to the security guard-you have to show the guard the box because it has the security tag." So I told him again I don't want the Box I just want the ring so if you could please just take the ring out of this box so I can wear it out the store. He looked at me like I asked him to complete quantum physics and said he couldn't do that because it was too difficult. He said he would need a scissor to cut it. And we both just stared at each other for a moment and I looked down at the machine and I hit that I don't accept the charge or price. I said to just to keep everything that I don't want anything after all -to have a good day.
What I took away from this experience was that, had I been a Caucasian woman, heaven and earth would be moved around for me to make sure I felt supported and good in my purchases. But since I wasn't...I wasn't even worth a friendly greeting.
Im planning to email JCP directly also because that kind awkward racial...
Read moreI go to JCPenny for one main reason only - for their photo studio. I ALWAYS purchase their Groupon deals and I use the savings to take yearly professional pictures of my kids for their birthdays. So every year for the past 5 years or so I have booked a session and paid about $15-$20 to get a lifetime memory of my growing children. Sometimes we do family pictures as well, but I make it a priority to do it for my kids. Before that I use to go to Sears.
Pros: Overall, they have a really good staff. The pictures comes out really beautiful and all the pictures you take are archived for about 3-months that you can go back and reorder other poses.
Cons: At times, the wait can be way too long even when you have made an appointment. When you come to pick up your pictures they print extra copies assuming you will like it and buy it for a deep discount. But I never buy it. And when you don’t agree to buy it they just throw it away. What’s the point of printing it. That’s just a waste and a disservice to our planet. A better solution would be to show it to me from the computer and we can decide. If I say no then nothing was lost (no resources, paper, trees, ink, etc). But if I say yes have a handy “quick print” option. I would’ve been more happier if they just given me my picture for FREE then to just throw it all away.
Overall, I still love to go there because it’s a family tradition. Don’t forget to checkout Groupon before you go take your pictures. You will save tons and tons of money in advance. They almost always have a Groupon deal.
I also like to go to Sephora inside of JCPenny, but I’m not a regular. But I know it’s there if I need to go. But the store is always clean and great to go to if you needed...
Read moreI visited the Brooklyn gateway location 11.26.23 between 3-5 pm after purchasing 2 dresses prior. ( I had returned them previously for one size up). I didn't try them in the store. After my 2nd trip I noticed a beautiful dress I had purchased with feathers for my upcoming birthday was sheading all over the floor. I felt like a chicken loosing all its feathers. The cashier appears to be relatively new was nice however she had some difficulty finding my return in the system and so she called the manager for help. He gave her directions and left she still couldn't find the information. He tried telling her I returned it before which I confirmed yes I did for another size however instead of asking me questions about the return he is questioning the cashier who has no answers for his questions such I interjected and stated to him I am not mute and is able to speak. I attempted to explain my reasons fof the return he completely ignored me. He responded "i never said you're mute" he proceeded to ignore me. FInally he found my receipt in the system( please understand I provided copies of my original receipt and also my exchange receipt which at the beginning) the manager kept speaking to the cashier without even making eye contact nor acknowledging my presence. He then stated to the cashier "the costumer is fustrated not us". This is not my first time observing a rude manager in this location. Customer service makes a business productive therefore it's imperative managers set the tone for those they are supervising. He has no leadership skills and should not be supervising others. In the end I...
