My cousin was a resident of Rutland for several years. W. was younger than most of the adult residents, but had a combination of physical and mental health issues that made it impossible for her to live in assisted living or independently. W. often needed to be hospitalized and the combination of medical and mental health services at Kingsbrook and proximity made Rutland the right choice.
Rutland staff had never had a resident quite like W, but mobilized to provide adequate to excellent care for W.
W. had an involved and patient family member (who had power of attorney) who engaged and worked with staff. She acknowledged that W. was a challenging resident and helped them to see W. as a person with wonderful qualities beyond her physical and mental illness. W.'s advocate always treated staff (Aides, Nurses, PT, OT, Nutritionists, and medical and mental health providers with respect and gratitude (as simple as "please" and "thank you").
The building is old and has 400 residents, but it shines. It is understaffed at times and there is staff turnover. BUT some staff members have worked at Rutland for many years. In general, staff feels unacknowledged and unsupported. It is bare bones in services. At times, care is poorly co-ordinated. We found that it was usually possible to to engage staff in problem-solving.
W. died due to kidney failure recently. W. was comfortable and at peace with excellent Hospice Care supplementing care from Aides and Nurses. The Rabbi was wonderful.
If you are willing to advocate and work WITH staff to care for your family member, Rutland can provide adequate to excellent care for your...
Read moreWhen I first heard that Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center Rutland Nursing Home will be my husband's long term care center, I was very apprehensive, because I wanted him home and I didn't hear great things generally about Rehabilitation Centers. However, I have never been so wrong in my life about this facility. The staff is absolutely wonderful, kind, gentle and caring. Especially some of the 6 West Nurses where he is at now: M. Medor, R. Iroh, R. Laguerre and M. Jules because they are always willing and eager to help me. I love the rounds made during lunch time by the nurses. My questions are always answered in a very professional manner. My concerns are always addressed on a timely fashion. I appreciate the fact that they always check their contact sheets to make sure that they are speaking with the right person. I'm also thankful for the therapists on that floor and on the 2nd floor. Some nurses aides like Ms. Mighty, Ms. St Fort, Ms. Gibbs and Ms. Bradley. Everybody goes above and beyond to help their patients and each one who I meet is nicer than the next. If I would have met some of the staff members on the outside I would have chosen them as my friend surely. The facility is always kept clean and clutter free and that made me very happy. Recreational time is extremely enjoyable, fun and lots of laughter. The dietician worked together with me to make sure that my husband enjoys his meals. My family and I have had a wonderful experience here and would definitely recommend Rutland Nursing Home at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center 6 West to anyone who is looking for a great long term or short term center for...
Read moreAfter the poor judgment in this rutland nursing home, being "carried" by the other buildings connected to this place, I'm happy, they tricked my mother, to sign a AmA form so they can "protect" themselves. By the way, she still has a fractured heel, but she asked for a copy, they neglected to give it to her. Evasive, as well. Yet, still, want to discharge her for "unsafe" reason over a motorized wheelchair that is CLEARLY hers. Too much to get to. I got frustrated towards one of the supervisors and I apologize for that, but not sorry for saying "they" are incompetence, still on going. It's like they enjoy it, because of zero accountability. Cowardice to the T. The CNA, her PTs, and the nurses cleaning my mom and helped her with the equipment to get on and off the chair, a beautiful 5 star. There were others with very compassionate concerns. Everyone that is a "messenger" for bureaucracy or their higher authority, are more concerned with protecting their own hide. Even, if it doesn't look that way, it's all the same. Leashes jerked? You answer. I'm more disappointed that beautiful soul people have to be involved with the corruption of this nursing home. Please, be a nag if need to protect your family, because they kept getting in my mom's way of hers. Over "Medical facility" conditions. In conclusion, they want mom to be blamed, but turnabout is fair play. I don't and my family doesn't need to do anything to them. They will be undone. The ones that caused my...
