I have been living here for a year now, and the most recent review below is absolute bullsh—. This past winter, I had to purchase my own heater because the one in my apartment is not working. The electric in my apartment occasionally goes out randomly, and there have been instances where my water either changes color, (i have brought glasses full of green water to the office) or it is shut completely without my prior knowledge. Aside from these issues in the last year, the most recent mechanical issues are with the elevators. After months of both elevators working only occasionally, both are now out. We are being told it will take SIX MONTHS to repair. All residents are expected to use the stairs or the freight elevator which took TWO YEARS to fix in the first place. With COVID, we originally were allowed 3 people per elevator ride. But now, the freight elevator is in constant use, stopping at nearly every floor, with 7-8 people cramming in at a time. You must leave your apartment 10-15 mins ahead of time if you want to catch the elevator. Yesterday, 6/3/21, i crammed into the elevator with my dog, a woman, a girl with a scooter, a man with a full size grocery cart & an elderly man with a wheelchair; he had to literally TUCK his feet into the grocery cart. This is originally a 55+ & elderly building and there is absolutely no reason why this man, who is handicapped, should succumb to riding an elevator so uncomfortably. Today alone, I’ve been on the elevator with him 3times and its only 3pm. Just now there was an incident where a younger man fainted on the elevator - i can only imagine why??? Stopping at every floor and compiled into a small elevator with 7-8 other people, I’m not shocked. But with zero compassion, i overhead a maintenance worker - WHO ALSO LIVES IN THE BUILDING - tell about 6-8 residents that “the only way the building will be renovated is if all tenants move out.” How about we just stop paying rent????? With ALL OF THE ABOVE being said - I watched my neighbor across move out, the apartment was torn up & renovated with new floors, appliances, cabinetry, etc and yet the building itself is in shambles. Absolutely disgusting. I’ve already called building code of Newark twice this week, so let’s see if i can update this review with...

Read moreHeritage Estates was the first and only development I visited when I began my apartment search. I moved to Newark from Manhattan because the market rate apartments in the five boroughs were unaffordable. It had everything I was looking for; affordability, round the clock security, accessibility to transportation, quiet and well kept neighborhood. I love my new apartment; the views and closet space are amazing. Ms. Cortez was wonderful in guiding me through the rental process. I also like that management enforces the rules which was lacking at my...
