Family Dollar — Local services in Newburgh Heights

I had a very disappointing experience at this Family Dollar location during a recent tornado. I was seeking shelter from the severe weather, and was looking for the nearest store to take shelter in as I was driving and had no where to go. Instead, when the power went out, all of the customers including myself were asked to leave the premises. It was extremely disheartening and distressing to be turned away during such a dangerous situation. I was scared and had no where to go. When I went out to my car after being kicked out, my car was shaking and debris was flying in the air.

I understand that there may be policies in place, but it seems like there should be some flexibility in cases of emergency. A store could be a lifesaver during a tornado, providing safety for those caught in the storm. I hope the management reconsiders their policy on handling emergency situations to ensure the safety and well-being of customers...

Wish I could leave negative stars for this place. The staff called the POLICE on myself, my girlfriend & our son for no other reason than our kid was sick in the parking lot before we went inside. It was a long hot day & the boy was feeling sick so we stopped for maybe 4 or 5 mins after getting out of the car to make sure he was ok. Unbeknown to us, the staff at this store had reported us to the POLICE as acting suspiciously. The Newburgh Hts officers then proceeded to interrogate us about what we were doing in the parking lot & in doing so called us drug addicts & even searched my car for no reason. We were so offended that we left without purchasing anything & we will NEVER be going back to this store. I think the staff profiled us because of our race. Other than the horrible, prejudiced staff the store itself isn't bad, but go there at your own risk of being accosted...

Staff to busy on phones.When there's a long line the manager on duty will NOT stop to help customers and a FEW of the cashiers are very rude. As for this red tag clearance event I had paid full price the last three times I've tried to purchase something because the clearance items weren't marks like the ones are on Broadway and the register always rings up the wrong price or the person at the register is unaware of how to change or enter the correct price. So it was just easier for me to pay...
