First time shopping at the Commissary @ Newport Naval Station. Can't say enough about how great of a place it is! Everything that we purchased there was much cheaper than what my wife and I pay at any of the supermarkets off base! Although the selection of some of the brands was limited, we were able to purchase everything we needed and had on our list.. The Commissary was clean and organized well. What is not to like? They have just updated the facility and did a bang-up job. Clean, organized and now modern and efficient. Prices can not be beat, even by the warehouse stores. You have to love the baggers, remember to remind them that you tip on the total amount of the bill NOT the number of bags... But they will fill them fuller if you ask. The deli is especially excellent with the service, and fresh items. Maybe a trip to get there but always worth it. It is about time to be open 7 days a week, don't you think? Store experience: The carts are on the wrong side of the entrance and employees have been consistently rude.

Pricing: Some stuff is cheaper like frozen chicken. Milk and produce are way more expensive here—for instance, milk is often over $5 at the commissary and $3 off base. The bottled water is expensive too, especially for those needing non-base drinking water.

To save: Definitely use Aldi and Walmart…kind of a shame that I span 3 grocery stores,...
