I hate Walmart to begin with. Underpaid, overworked staff leads to rudeness and discontent. Plus, their merchandise is cheaply and horribly made. But Newport Walmart is one of the worst. The store is mapped out in a way that makes me wonder if a gorilla with irreparable brain damage was hired to do so. Asking staff where something is results in rolled eyes and deep sighs, as if you've asked them to trek barefoot to Tibet. And when you finally find what you're looking for, it's usually in an aisle so disorganized and sloppy that you feel you've wandered into some strange land where people feel obliged to attack the merchandise and throw it all over the place, where it's to sit indefinitely.
And I can't even begin to describe the godawful smell. It's as if they've plastered the place with air fresheners named "Dirty Feet" and "Reeking Armpits". When I'm forced to go there, I make a beeline to the rack of scented candles and hold one to my nose for the duration of my temporary incarceration.
The "best" part is checking out where few of the staff speak/understand English. I love those who immigrate to our fair land, infusing it with fresh culture and generations, but placing someone with limited English skills in a position where they deal with the public is ridiculous. They're embarrassed, as am I. And also deeply frustrated. I've had to pantomime questions time and time again. One woman was so rude that I didn't speak Spanish, she kept smirking at me as I attempted to make clear what I was asking. I finally walked out, leaving an entire carriage behind.
And trying to complain via phone to management? Ha! I was put on hold for twenty minutes one time, and a half hour another time. Both times, I finally hung up.
Do society a favor and don't shop at Walmart at all, not until they treat their employees with respect. It's the only trickle-down theory that actually works: the employees are treated like crap, so they treat customers like crap. And the Newport Walmart is the best example. Or would that be the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat an amazing time we had today on Cyber Monday, I ordered a tv online for $500 dollars went into the store to pick it up an hour later, but it wasnāt ready of course. And even though itās right on the shelf we couldnāt just walk out with it because āreasonsā.
So we spoke to a nice lady named āHeatherā she told us it might not be ready for a while because itās Cyber Monday, which is understandable, and it might be easier to cancel the order and just walk out with it. So I went ahead and cancelled my pick-up order.
A few moments passed and we had the same tv from my online order up at the register, but oh no this time it came to $700, well I sought out āHeatherā again to see what had happened to the price, well it turns out that ordering it online somehow saved us $200 dollar.
Now even though she was the one who had seen my order history and the price of the tv over by the pick-up counter before she walked me through how to cancel it, there was nothing more she could do besides talk down to me in a condescending tone and act like I was the one who had the audacity to expect the in-store prices to be the same as the online ones.
Heather is the perfect Walmart employee, sheās miserable, mean, ugly, and unhelpful. But honestly there is no better place for her in society than at that dump of a Walmart in Newport. I hope she can continue to make just above the minimum wage and keep ruining peopleās day cause I know Iāll never be back to that store again. Thanks so...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNice to see they have 2 or 3 cashiers on the auto checkouts. While lines at the 2 or 3 manned registers have 10+ people in line. Also, being as big of corporation as they are, you'd think they could afford to pay people for the jobs they are doing. Not paying for the position to do it. Most places, especially Wal-Mart, are having workers do 4 or 5 jobs, without the extra pay. And only hiring cashiers for part time. I can tell when they dont like someone, or want to get rid of someone. There will always be a group of managers at the end of an aisle, standing around laughing and joking around. They will take turns going down the aisle, and criticizing their work performance. It absolutely disgusts me, so much, i will not shop without my earphones in. The things they say, the outrageous expectations, and speed, then its the workers fault for mistakes. Anything to make a dollar. I wish Benny's was still open, the store in Middletown? Everyone had smiles, and wanted to assist the customers. Bring back small businesses, and cut the big...
