Naval Station Newport Rhode Island — Local services in Newport

If I could give the naval base and the bank it has less than one star I would. I came here to this location to get some funds moved around and the naval base that serves as the gateway to the actual branch kept asking for documentation they already asked me and knew beforehand that I didn't have, because I was traveling out of state and heading up to Boston from NYC for the weekend. I went to go get a pass to access the base and I get all of this hostility over me wanting to go on base to access the branch.

I gave them my drivers license and then when they asked for my registration, being that I'm from NY, I told them I don't keep the actual document in my car because in my state, the registration document in the windshield is given priority and is treated as the actual document needed for 99.9% of everything related to it. The only time a NY'er will use the registration document (the paper one that doesn't go in the car) is if they go to the DMV or need to use it to prove the insurance on a car.

I felt like the naval base was treating me as a villain who blew up the base itself yet I was only there to go about moving my funds around. They were super hostile and confrontational about every little question that I asked. I'm not even from this area, so what's the problem of going out of their way to inconvenience me?

I ended up calling Navy Federal directly and they solved my issue in 15 minutes, with no help to the naval base. If that's how the naval base is treating regular members of the bank who do financial business here, I can't imagine how they treat actual military service members in the event that they forget or don't bring a document that they need regardless of if they knew beforehand what needed to be brought with them.

I've never had this experience as a Navy Federal member in the past prior to today, and because of what I went through I don't want anyone else to come to this location and deal with hostile and confrontational naval officers just cause they want to withdraw $100 in the bank located on the base itself.

Save your time and energy, and literally go anywhere else where you don't have to deal with the attitudes of nasty people and not waste your time. I will continue to bank with Navy Federal but avoid this particular location...

I've spent two decades in the Army, and I've seen my fair share of military bases. But let me tell you, Naval Station Newport is something else. I was there to attend my buddy's ODT Graduation, and I was blown away by the experience.

First off, the base itself is immaculate. It's not just the cleanliness, but the attention to detail that caught my eye. The landscaping is pristine, and the architecture of the buildings is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It's clear that the Navy takes great pride in maintaining their facilities, and it shows.

As for the ODT Graduation ceremony, it was nothing short of exceptional. The level of professionalism and discipline displayed by the sailors was commendable. The ceremony was well-organized, punctual, and filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment that's hard to put into words. It was an honor to be a part of such a momentous occasion.

I've worked with the Navy a few times over the years, and I've always been impressed by their standards. But visiting Naval Station Newport gave me a newfound respect for the branch. They really know how to put on a show and make everyone feel welcome.

Drove to this base because I wanted to visit some places on here. This base is super immaculate and the attention to detail superb. The cleanliness of this base had me visiting over several years as me and my family resided in Connecticut (over several years). The architecture and landscaping is so captivating and aesthetically appealing and pleasing to one’s eyes.

When we relocated we came back to visit on the base to take in the lovely view from the restaurant we eat at band the pier.
