Edit: This store had gone from very bad to even worse. It's filthy!!! Approx 25% of the items in the store do not have prices posted or kept updated. The public bathrooms are kept locked with signs on the door "Out of Order", but the employees use them regularly. I asked one of the newer employees why the bathrooms are always out of order (because they're not at other locations), they told me that the bathrooms work fine but the employees were tired of cleaning them so they just put signs up to keep customers out! "The attitude of 90% of the employees is total S- H- ! -T. They act like customers are an inconvenience. I have worked with the public all of my life and except for the firefighter guy that works there, almost all of the other employees could care less about their jobs, customer service, or the customers at all. In general I really like the Aldi stores, good prices and interesting variety. The 21st Street location in Norfolk is definitely the exception. The mood in the store always seems stressed and unpleasant, I don't know if it's management or what. Even though I live only a few blocks from 21st Street I will go out of my way to go down to the Janaf location and shop there. The mood in the Janaf store seems to be so much lighter and pleasant, the store even seems cleaner. Any other, ANY OTHER location is cleaner, nicer, and more well run...
Read moreI like this place. I don't quite understand the quarter in the buggy thing but, maybe it's to keep homeless from taking off with their buggies or to help pay cart pullers to go get them from the parking lot if any find their way out there. But, I do like some of the prices. I actually found a bread there that is just like nature's own honey wheat but half the price. I don't think they have bags for shoppers if I remember right which is disappointing. Prices should be much less for such an inconvenience at any grocery store where people are likely to spend 100's then have to find a way to tote all that lose stuff home. But, I would shop there again. Chip prices are crazy everywhere thanks to this greedy government smothering out trucking industry. Recession is almost full blown. Sad to see. I cannot wait until this administration is out of office so we can get our country back & get back to having affordable grocery prices & gas. EVery time this government lowers a cost of something it is usually their attempt to distract us from how terrible of a job they are doing to our country &...
Read moreI have visited this store site for almost 40 years since it was a Gene Walter's then a Farm Fresh. It does not have the variety of items that Gene Walter's or Farm Fresh had nor does it cover the entire original footprint, but the vegetables are nice, the quick pick-up items by the front door are a nice touch (a revolving assortment of ready-made pizzas, beef and pork BBQ heat and serve items, and my favorite Chicken Alfredo, just heat and serve in 10 min. The prices are also great. Bring your own bags AND bag your groceries... remember to have a quarter on you in order to get a shipping cart, but when you return the cart you get your quarter back. (Great idea! This area of Norfolk has always had high cart disappearance. This way you are guaranteed a cart will be available.) You can also simply leave your quarter in the slot on the cart and "pay-it-forward" for the next customer. Many of us have been known to swap a cart with a new shopper in the parking lot for their quarter without having to return the cart all the way back to the store. Everyone is very friendly.... workers and...
