Hoping I ordered the wrong thing. I don't know. I tried the chicken shawarma pita with french fries. The best thing about the meal was the french fries. It's all downhill from there.
I asked for it extra spicy, but it was not spicy at all. I mean, not at all.
Starting with the pita, it was OK, but it wasn't warm and didn't have a lot of flavor. It wasn't stale but not so fresh either. It was just there. A receptacle.
Next, the chicken. The chicken was strange. It was chopped to death into these micro bits which had some hard edges and some fat and gristle in them. The chicken was dark gray in color which I found a little odd. It was also over cooked in my opinion, not extremely tender, & not flavorful either.
In fact all the flavors were muddled if existing at all. I even had them put eggplant and french fries inside. It didn't help. Everything was overwhelmed by these mayonnaise sauce concoctions. Which were also bland. And rich. And too much. I couldn't tell the difference between them, but there must've been two or three different ones. Also, the Tadzhiki type sauce that was served on the side was warm. And very watery. Very bland.
With a generous tip my bill was over $18. I mean, that is not a good value for what I ate. It just didn't taste great and I wasn't satisfied. I would not go back unless it was for the falafel. Hopefully that would be better. But they do not even have Lamb here. Just beef and chicken. Unless I'm missing something. I looked at the menu board about 10 times. I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews and the fact that I can walk there. Very...
Read moreI have to say, I was REALLY hoping to enjoy this place. I love shawarma and falafel and have heard so many people have about it. I placed an order via their website for pickup. When I arrived, the order wasn't ready which was fine because I was a little early. The girl said they'd get started making everything. I watched another person throw together our sandwiches, toss some falafel in a bag, and shove everything in the to go bag. I didn't see them put fries in though, which I ordered with both sandwiches. I asked about it and the girl explained that what I selected was for fries ON the sandwich. This was not clear at all when I placed the order. And I said so. The one girl snapped "yeah they're working on it". The nicer girl who had greeted me started to offer "a small bag of fries" because she felt bad for the misunderstanding, but the rude girl interrupted to say "no. If you want fries we have to charge you for them". So I had to pay for more fries, had fries ON 2 sandwiches, which I did NOT want, and the fries were tiny and mostly burnt, and definitely not worth it. I went home with my order to discover the side of hummus I ordered was absent, and my husband ordered a wrap and was given a pita (which, by the way, is less expensive than what we paid for the wrap we should've gotten). And the falafel was extremely overcooked. I'd like to think maybe I just caught them on a bad night... And will probably give them another chance at some point. But I don't plan on that being...
Read moreOF . . course, I found this place on Yelp. So many of my friends have checked in and I was like hmm.
I remember going back to Barhain as a kid and stopping by the corner store and getting a fresh shawarma. It's really one of my best childhood memories.
Walking in, the decor was really nice. Small details make a big difference. The line was long so that means that I . . am .. in the right place. When reading the prices I was like "whoa there". It was a little more expensive than I thought it would be because of what I was used to paying in Bahrain. However, I know that I know for a fact that I won't get this quality food anywhere else close by. So it was worth it.
I ended up getting the wrap beef with everything on it.. with the spicy hummus, grilled onions, tomatoes cabbage, and garlic sauce. Okay yes, it was spicy and my nose was running so beware. Their fries are pretty good. I actually asked for them to put it inside my wrap to be "different". The falafel was different. I don't think I ever had that before but it was really food. My dad also had fries, so i picked off of him lol. You can taste the flavor of everything even if it was wrapped.
One of the pros to this place, they have pickled peppers and pickled cucumbers on the side. I LOVED ANYTHING PICKLED. You can take those to go and have them on the side.
The artwork on the walls of this place is amazing. It was nice to incorporate the life of...
