It's easy for an adult to disrespect a child. And it was easy for you to raise your voice to me.
It's our second time here and unfortunately I do not see us coming back. It seemed like it would be a good place tho. My child is used to me reprimanding them, not strangers. I guess I should not have used the restroom while my child was playing. Or maybe I should have dragged them into the restroom with me to prevent this bad experience. Now they do not want to come back if she's gonna yell at them. I would assume she raised her voice. But I don't know how she acted towards them. But she sure gave me a piece of her mind within 60 seconds of me leaving the restroom. And she certainly seemed pissed off. She knew it was our second time here, as I had told her that upon paying for today.
We were going to go to Sensory Escape today. They are geared more towards autistic children, such as my child. But unfortunately they are closed on Thursdays.
I hope to find more places for my child to enjoy. To bad other people can not reply to my post to inform me of other places.
We are gonna go try Bounce-A-Roma. Then maybe Urban Air.
Your response is inaccurate.
Jackie, We're sorry you had this experience today, as it is not a normal situation that we have here.
We do have the rules posted and do not allow phones to be used in the bounce house. Unfortunately, since we could not find you, we asked your child to come out of the bounce house until you returned, and then followed up with a conversation with you immediately, so you knew what was said. We understand that your child is usually directed for certain things by you and do ask that children are always attended to by their parents, however, since we could not locate you and felt it needed to be addressed with your child for their safety.
As what was said to my child was
"I told you once already."
And you in fact told me. Not them.
And as I said in the beginning. It was our second time there. The rules could have been pointed out to me when I informed you, this is our second time here.
We had to find everything on our own. I didn't even know the dark room was an option. Yesterday they enjoyed playing in that room that we found.
I wanted him to play with the Connect four game. Unfortunately with the reaction of the mother who was also in your facility, and my child's reaction. I understand why my child wanted to immediately leave. Even though I had paid the the rest of the day.
My child has been abused by teachers and daycare providers. Adults that should know better. My child received a broken shoulder while in school. And the abuse he received from the two daycare workers, I have an even harder time talking about.
It's easy for an adult to disrespect a child. And it was easy for you to raise your voice to me.
If you were paying attention as the other mother was. You would have known I was keeping my child's...
Read moreI am incredibly disappointed by my recent experience with STEAM Indoor Play Center, but I do feel an obligation as a parent to leave a review as a notice for other families who are considering a membership.
I originally purchased a membership for my family back in 2022, scheduled to start in January 2023. I was not made aware at that time that this was an auto-renewing subscription. (Past memberships we've purchased or have been gifted to our family for Akron Zoo, Stan Hywet Hall, Great Lakes Science Center, etc. have never had auto-renew policies.) When I saw a charge for a membership come through for this year, I called the same day to request a refund/cancellation to give me time to consider whether or not to purchase a membership again. It took over 30 days, three voicemails, and an email to receive an answer, and I was ultimately denied a refund and told we could transfer the amount to other services, which we do not want.
I typically like to focus on the positive when it comes to local businesses and mostly leave 5-star reviews for businesses I truly love and have great experiences with, because I know the negative impact bad reviews can have. The positive, in this case, is that my kids have had a number of fun days playing at STEAM. However, we were finding that, with the addition of a new member to our family, we were not able to use the membership as much as we hoped and were considering other options, such as purchasing day passes vs. a year membership.
This was a significant cost that I was not expecting, and the lack of customer service in handling my request was very disappointing. I understand that businesses have policies, but I believe there should be some flexibility, especially when the customer reaches out the same day an auto-renewal charge was made.
I'm sharing this experience to make other families aware of the auto-renew policy and the difficulty I experienced in trying to cancel and get a refund. I hope that STEAM Indoor Play Center will reconsider their policies and improve their customer service...
Read moreI will start by sharing a few positives: this indoor play area was quite large, had a sitting area in case you want to bring in lunch, and the staff were friendly. Additionally, the price was very reasonable, at $8 per child for an hour of play. My 1 1/2 year old daughter enjoyed playing there.
However, the positives end there. During our visit, most, if not all of the toys/equipment were dirty, sticky, broken, or missing pieces. Many of the items, such as the train table, were missing the most integral pieces needed to play with them (no trains or tracks). The space is almost too large for the amount of toys, so they were awkwardly spread out with no real flow or organization. One of the rooms had a distinct dirty diaper smell. There didn’t seem to be any sort of sanitation protocols in place. For example, I didn’t see any drop off points for mouthed/dirty toys and I never saw a staff member wipe down anything. The rooms did not feel clean.
Overall, the effect was dilapidated, unsanitary, and a little sad. My daughter had fun, but as a parent, I’m disappointed and definitely would...
