After a rough night experiencing substandard service from a local eating establishment, I knew that I needed a pick me up. Strangely, there is one thing that always picks me up while I am down - and that one thing is porpoises.
So I booked the Sea Screamer dolphin cruise and boarded a crowded boat full of fellow dolphin lovers. The boat was a little crowded because I was sharing the boat with an out of town girls basketball team.
We headed out in the Atlantic and eventually found of group of 5 very energetic dolphins zipping around the boat. We watched the lively dolphins for about 10 minutes before they started to lose some energy.
The fact that the dolphins were slowing down did not please everyone on the cruise. A man who accompanied the girls basketball team (who I overheard them call "Coach") started to point and yell at the dolphins for not swimming hard enough. At one point, he actually told the cruise pilot to stop the cruise while he called the 5 dolphins over to the side of the boat. He told all the dolphins that if they didn't start swimming harder - that they would be replaced with 5 swordfish in a heartbeat.
That seemed to do the trick - the dolphins resumed their energetic antics for the remainder of the cruise. A great time was...
Read moreThis is for sure worth the money! These folks do a fantastic job doing what they do. We tried to go out on a day that the water was pretty rough, and they told us exactly what was up... they would do their best to get us out there, but wouldn't put us in harm's way to do it, so if we had to turn around, so be it. They tried to get us out there but it was just too rough. So we did have to turn around, getting very wet in the process, and we did get a free pass to go out again another time, which we used the following day. Following day was a perfect day to go out, and we did, and let me tell ya, dolphins EVERYWHERE! I don't think there was a soul on the boat that wasn't having a blast, young to old, parents to kids, grandparents, EVERYONE had a great time! I didn't get our captain's name, but he was a great guy! And Molly, his helper, she was fantastic as well. I tipped them a good amount and really wished I could've tipped them even more!! Great job on these trips, and thank you!! Would recommend to anyone visiting myrtle beach!! Got to see dolphins, sting rays, lots of jelly fish, the tuna boat pulling their nets in with all kinds of creatures, it was just cool! Very well...
Read moreWe had a BLAST!!! I think I was more excited than my two children about spotting the dolphins (I was the first one on the boat to spot them, I will never shut up about that) but they loved the ride! You do get wet, not TOO wet though, so I would recommend sturdy sandals, or sneakers you donât care much about and breathy cotton clothes with a hoodie just in case. Someone even had a swimsuit under jean shorts, thatâs a great idea too.
We had great weather, the crew was so friendly and although itâs not guaranteed, we saw a TON of dolphins and a sea turtle that got shy and dived on us. My youngest is the most adventurous out of all of us and she held the âjelly ballâ jellyfish. They made sure all the kids who wanted to hold it could, while making sure the jellyfish stayed safe and hydrated.
This location is a little far from the main drag in Myrtle Beach, our Uber was a bit less than 30 minutes but based on the reviews I say go for it. Bring cash for the framed photos after if you would like to purchase and to tip the crew if you feel so inclined. It was such a...
