My kids each participated in a morning and afternoon camp with Classroom Antics last week. I was really impressed with the skills they gained over the course of the week, both in the Minecraft coding and game design programs that were featured in the camp, as well as basic computer literacy they hadn't experienced just from using Chromebooks at school. They got more confident using a mouse, understanding how files are saved to a hard drive and moved to a USB drive to transfer to our home computer and navigating opening files within a program from a file explorer.
Additionally the projects looked like a good mix of structure and creativity. Both kids each learned some specific functions and features, but were able to customize what they were building to their own tastes, with the teachers helping them explore options.
Because I had two kids in two camps each and they stayed for lunch in between, to see their work, I stayed in the first camp of the day for a few minutes to see their previous day's work, which I was told was the best way to handle this via email before the camps started. I sort of felt this might not have been communicated to the staff and possibly made one of the classes more hectic because they started with robots and my kid was getting to fire up Minecraft to show me stuff, which some of the other kids complained about. I also had to scramble between classrooms on different floors to see their work at the end of the day and ended up not being able to really see much of their game designs (one staff member had the groups powered down by the time I got up there if I visited that class second). This ended up feeling quite hectic every afternoon, though I'm not sure how Classroom Antics could structure this better. The multi-floor situation was a function of the building where the camps were held. I ended up mostly having my children load their games onto my computer after we got home from camp to...

2018-Our son had a fantastic time attending both Minecraft and Programming: Creative Coders. I was pleased to see many diverse females and males in his class as coding skills are important for everyone!
The instructors were fantastic; we received a daily email with specifics on what our son had done each day. He received a jump drive with all his programs and at the end of the week had learned a great deal and had fun doing so! I especially loved that the class had many hands-on activities so that students were not simply staring at screens for an entire session.
We will definitely be back next year and bringing our daughter too, now that she...
Read moreSo my son was in Minecraft decoding class this year and the teacher did a amazing job at teaching , answering any or all questions from my son. This is my son second time going but with a different experience and different kind of camp based program. He came home each day so excited to tell me what he learn . He has definitely ended camp with more knowledge of Minecraft then when he first started. He told me the other day he cant wait to go back next year . so he definitely will be returning. I definitely recommend to check it out like I did . my son has a cognitive disability and he doesn't learn like other children would he's very Hands-On. so if you have a child that's a very Hands-On like mine this most definitely will work for yours and he or she will love it . pluse they get a cool t shirt and maybe something a little exstra depending on witch camp / class room they attend . but either way it was worth the exsperious all...
