I can't speak for the actual gym much but from the sound of it; it sounds nice.
I can say whoever just answered the reception phone for this gym (I'm assuming it was a female Marine) was very polite, helpful and informative. Some people kinda have a crummy attitude when your asking questions or are not that helpful(not on base; just in general). I think If I had to sum it up in a few words; I would just say really good positive energy.
I've been trying not to stress about possibly moving back to Oahu and figuring out all the info I need to know about the best ways to keep up with my health.
Friendly advice is a non condescending tone is always appreciated. Apparently it's a good work enviroment and probably a pretty darn good gym. I recommend high marks and a raise in pay grade upon the next performance review. lol.
Okay so I am just now realizing apparently they have civilians working the front desk as well. Either way I'm saying that if there really are grumpy and disgruntled staff at times (as another reviewer put it) they should maybe try to emulate those they have the right type of attitude.
If someone has poor customer service skills or doesn't like to help than they should probably find another job. Again this does not just apply to this gym; but this is a common sense things that apparently some people fail to grasp or just don't care enough. So kudos and props for doing a good...
Read moreMy only real complaint in regards to the equipment is that there is an over abundance of deadlift bars in comparison to only 2 or 3 stiff bars. I always get my workout in with the appropriate bar for the lift I am training, but it would be nice to not need to stalk around the power racks looking for a stiff bar or a Rouge bar that still has some knurling left on it. Some minor things: Out of the 4 benches, I am personally only able to utilize 2 of them to the fullest due to the other 2 being a few inches too close to the ground thanks to the layer of mats underneath where my feet go. The power racks are pretty standard and there are more than enough of them. If you have arms that are a bit on the longer side it can be hard to get a wide grip on your squat due to the width of the rack and where the bar sits when racked. The dumbbells over 100 pounds tend to have different sized grips in the set. Can make heavy pressing sets a bit difficult due to the slight imbalance this creates.
When it's all said and done this gym is very well equipped and the staff are great. In the civilian world a place like this would cost you upwards of $50 a month. The workers here go...
Read moreMaintenance of equipment and facilities are a joke. Keeping cardio machines in racquetball room is ridiculous. Machines are rusty and need care. Padding on machines like lying leg curl had the wrong kind of padding that gives you no support so your thighs rests the padding down to the wood beneath. Saw a maintenance or trainer hard to tell since he does nothing except talk go up to the tricep pulldown cables and say to the person working out “excuse me bruddah” then spray lubricant on the bar the guy was using and just walk away after without wiping off the excess oil! Really? Should make every manager go to the JBPHH GYM and study under Benny the manager there. He has standards that he requires all his staff to meet whether its janitors, maintenance, front desk or trainers. And unlike many other managers he actually competed in bodybuilding and knows the ins and outs of the fitness trade. Go to the Pearl gym to see a gym...
