O where do I start with Shimas. To begin with its no longer a local store anymore, it was bought out by the big chain Times Super Market but without their benefits. We get a few sales but for the most part the prices on things are still the local sky high price and we the people who live here think that it's pretty greedy of Times not to make changes so we can get a brake on the price of food. Waimanalo is one of the highest food stamp participates in the state yet we pay the highest prices for food. The food is often not fresh and past the date codes and the parking well we all know how the parking is. The one good thing I can say about Shimas is they have some of the nicest employees working there. Maybe you should start looking up and think about putting on some more stories and underground parking would be nice. They get away with monster houses why not build a monster grocery store of sorts at least all the locals can benefit from a bigger grocery store I don't think you'd hear too many complaints for that project instead they tear up our roads for months on end for what? Keeping us in the dark about what's really going on. We don't believe it's for 40 feet of side walk what we do know is our familys are being injured because of the poor execution of road signs and deep holes all over did I mention BUSTING UP OUR CARS? Ya if you dont have to come through waimanalo go someplace else its expensive and the roads are messed up! Waimanalo is being bought out bit by bit SHAME ON THE ONES IN CHARGE WHO'S BEING BOUGHT OUT WITH IT one day you'll have to serve someone on what you did. SHAME ON YOU!!!!! If this was God's country it's not anymore because of a few greedy rich men! Thanks for asking me to...
Read moreWe were on the way to the Byodo-In Temple and I wanted to take a picnic of poke with me so I again pulled out my phone to look for Poke and Shima’s Supermarket came up. This was our first poke experience in Hawaii for this trip so I was so excited to see the huge selection. There was a local lady in front of me who was placing her order and she was so kind to me and gave me a lot of good ideas of what to order.
I wish I had noted the name of the lady who was working behind the counter because she couldn’t have been more nicer to me. After being on the receiving end of a few curt and rude service in Oahu, this was such a nice and welcome change. This sweet lady while helping the nice local lady in front of me gave me so many samples to taste so that I knew exactly what to order.
I wanted to order the poke bowl but unfortunately she ran out of white rice. She did however sell me the last scoop of white rice that she had.
The ladies in the front and the cash register was also so very pleasant.
We ended up having such a wonderful picnic. Every poke that I had selected was packed with flavor and so very tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our first experience with this wonderful supermarket. Delicious poke, excellent, customer service, what more...
Read moreNow that Shimas belongs to the Times SuperMarket chain, they need to remember that Waimanalo tends to be a lower income city & lower some of their prices here instead of it taking financial advantage of the folks of Waimanalo. The workers here are always polite and diligent and busy,I hope Times pays them well for their time.Store needs to come up to date in there Beer Section, selling things like Mike's Hard Drinks, etc.instead of just beer, beer and beer, update their wine sections with good German Wines & good affordable red wines, instead of Boone's Farm or Red Lake Sasquatch clean refreshing pure Sasquatch spit.!Very bad liquor Dept.,Update some foods too, some refreshments, etc!Like with what Times carries in Kailua, cook outside Steak platters, have they Noticed the bumper to bumper...
