Uncle Bryan, thank you!!! Your surf school provided a truly awesome experience for Arleen and I! Beginning with your warm welcome and hospitality, your calmed our nerves and gave us that burst of encouragement that we needed (the pics of your little grandson surfing were adorable). Our instructor, Bobby was great! His 4 easy steps to catch a wave and getting up on the board to ride it was just that..EASY! Once we got out there, we were able to catch a wave and got up to ride it! The feeling was euphoric! Such a rush of excitement, I couldn't stop smiling, it felt sooo good! It's a 2 hour class but you're not punching a timecard. Bobby let us stay out there until our experience and expectations were exceeded (about 2 1/2 hrs)! Upon returning to shore, we reviewed some photos that had been taken of us. Those pics came out great! And clear too! Some of the angles made us look like we actually knew what we were doing! Our experience was such a satisfying feeling we tried paddle-boarding the next day! Bobby was made available for this class as well. Again, he provided easy and efficient lessons, guided us through a nearby river, and provided stories and events of Haleiwa. We saw turtles!! Along the shore and swimming around us! Another fulfilling experience, provided by a wonderful staff and passionate owner! Arleen and I can't thank you enough!

We had such an excellent time with the team at Uncle Bryan's Surf Academy! He fit us in the same day (THANK YOU). We met up with the class at the park and got our surf boards and our shirts, (such a helpful touch to avoid too much sun) and got our first lessons on the sand. Kai and Takoda took extra care to make sure we really learned and got our positions and transitions down before hitting the waves. This location is very safe and well managed as the area where you paddle out is calm and blocked by a short jetty. You then paddle parallel to shore and wait for your wave. A flurry of your arms and then you pop up and you are weightless. It's a magical feeling where you are totally cradled by the ocean and can really enjoy the ride! Then it's time for another wave! After a good long time, it's time to come in and get rinsed off before heading out. We even had a sea turtle come up to greet us! Was it safe? YES Was it doable for a variety of ages and skillsets? I am mid-forties and my kids are around 9 and 16 and we all had fun! Good equipment? Yes, everything from shirts to boards are well taken care of How are the instructors? Totally professional and they took extra good care of my girls. Kept the 9 year old from making mistakes and helped her choose the waves with the best chance of success. Surfing was one of the top things I wanted to learn how to do this summer. I am 16 years old and I took lessons with my dad and little brother. Not only was this a great activity to do with my family, but after taking lessons through this company I became more excited to go out in the water to practice surfing more. It was such a thrilling experience and I feel that I learned a lot in that single surf lesson. The two instructors we had were Marcus and Connor. They provided unbelievable encouragement, assistance, and were enthusiastic throughout the whole lesson. Both instructors were also very knowledgeable in sport; they provided great advice and thoughtful recommendations on how to improve. This is one of the reasons I enjoyed my experience and want to continue to become a better surfer.

Because it was one of the first times I've been surfing, I was not in "surfing shape", but both instructors voluntarily pulled us through the water, primarily so we could save our energy to ride the waves. This made the experience a lot more enjoyable. By the end of the lesson, I, as well as my dad and brother felt more comfortable to surf back at home in San Diego. Overall, I would definitely recommend this surf academy to anyone who is interested in taking surfing lessons. It was a beyond great experience and one of the best highlights of my vacation.
