So after my last review, I was contacted by one of the managers at the store and they sorted everything out.
Walmart has made it easier to do returns now, so since my last review I have not had any issues. I just use their Walmart app to pay or scan my receipts and it keeps ALL my receipts for me. So should I have an issue and need to return a food item in the future, I will always have my receipt.
ORIGINAL REVIEW Dear Walmart, I purchased four cans of Great Value beans from the Pearl City, Hawaii store for a meal. I used 2 for a meal side. When I ate them I thought something was wrong with them but my guest thought they were okay. My husband didn’t eat the meal, just the beans which he said he thought were a little “off”. All three of us had upset stomachs.
I brought the 2 unopened cans back to the store and they would not accept them without a receipt. As a busy working mom, I probably accumulate over 20 receipts a month from various stores. I don’t keep my receipts. I scan the receipt into the Walmart Savings Catcher and I trash the receipt. Unfortunately the savings catcher doesn’t have an option to find an item you bought on those receipts (someone needs to look into this as the option would be super helpful), I have no way showing my purchase except the fact that they are Great Value brand.
The customer service rep kept saying that they couldn’t accept the return because it’s their policy. She called a manager and she repeated the same thing. So I asked the manager straight out, “So you would rather me keep these beans and eat them, even though they made us sick before?” “Yes, because it’s our policy to not take them because you have no receipt.” She then called another manager who echoed the same thing.
So let me get this straight WALMART, you would rather me get sick than to take your beans back? Or someone else to get sick if I donated them? Or I can just throw away my money because I don’t want anyone to eat them to get sick? These are my options? You have to be kidding me, Walmart.
The beans cost me less than $1.00 for each can. I get that it’s “just a couple bucks” that I would be throwing away but it’s really about the principal here. When did this policy come into effect anyways? I remember bringing a box of pasta back that I didn’t use for a party with no issues a few months back.
I’m curious when someone from your big corporation is going to take notice. What if my experience is not an isolated incident? What if it was bad batch? What if they were expired and now the store has like 15 cans of expired beans that they are selling to the public? Once the media got hold of a story of several people getting sick from Walmart branded foods, is that when Walmart takes notice?
What would have happened if someone just took note of what I said and addressed it there with me? Isn’t the epitome of customer service addressing and VALIDATING the customer’s concerns? Every time someone told me they couldn’t help me because of POLICY it made my blood boil. When someone is in distress or has concern, no wants to hear that the reason they aren’t being helped is because of policy. The reason I was not helped was because no one wanted to spend the time to help me. No one even bothered to ask for the expiration date on the can after I told them that it made 3 people sick after eating it.
I’m disappointed in the customer service in Walmart. I’m sure I will still shop there because I live in Hawaii and if I need to save money, I need to shop at Walmart. But I will NOT be buying the Great Value brand items anymore since now I know that Walmart doesn’t care if the quality sucks and it makes you sick. Shame on...
Read moreTried to purchase alcohol, and the cashier asked if my 15 year old sister was my daughter. I responded "no, she's my sister." The cashier Yvonne walks away and whispers something to another filipino associate, without saying anything to me. So we're standing there, with the workers pointing and whispering about us until I ask what the problem is. Then they ask for my sister's ID, I tell them she doesn't have one because she's only 15. She tells me that I can't make the purchase because my sister is with me. I then ask about parents with kids and she responds with: "they can ID their kids." Um, I can ID my sister!?!? Finally a manager comes and he tells me that their policy is that everyone needs to show an ID. I ask him to show me the policy because I don't read it anywhere. He says "it's our policy" again like I'm stupid and he had to repeat himself. He then says, I'll just make an exception this time. I say "thank you" and ask him to please get me a copy of this policy where EVERYONE needs to show an ID. The manager says he'll get it and come right back. The cashier then begins to ring us up but takes the bottle of alcohol AND PUTS IT BACK. With a confused look, I ask why she isn't ringing me up for it, since the manager said he'll make an exception. She apparently wasn't paying attention cause she stupidly says "oh, he did?" Frustrated, I tell her to just forget about the bottle and ring me up for the 3 other things that she already scanned. As I'm placing the items in my wagon, she tells me to not take it and proceeds to VOID out product. She then calls another cashier over and says she has to clock out. So the new cashier RE-RINGS the 3 items that the first cashier rung up then voided out.
And the icing on the cake is that the manager NEVER RETURNED like he said he would. Unfortunately, this location is the closest to me and I will probably return to shop here since everything is so cheap. But booooooooooooooo to them on HORRIBLE customer service.
I really wouldn't be this upset if the 1st cashier informed me of the policy instead of whispering and accusing me of purchasing...
Read moreWhat a nasty employee working western union. Ill update the name next time i go there. Shes filipino, well they all were, but she was the youngest one with the blonde dyed hair
I went to go collect money sent to me. She asked me about 10 extremely personal questions. I never lost patience, i politely told her thats really personal. She said everyone is required to answer because of scams (altho i knew this wasnt true) after answering the questions she act like the system is giving her a hard time (this was just an act you will see later) and told me to call western union and gave me their number. When i called it congratulated me that i have been selected to win $100. I went back to the employee and told her it was a scam number and she said "oh sorry i gave you the wrong number" scratched it out and gave me a new number
The guy on the phone said his system is clear and nothing is wrong i should be able to withdraw my money. I gave her the phone so they can talk it out. She took my phone and literally threw it on the counter in irritation. After the call she said maybe i need to go somewhere else. I spent maybe an hour there talking to her several times and being on the phone. I went to safeway he just asked me where i was born and gave me the money and i was there maybe 3 minutes. Couple days later i go to use western union to send money and now my account is permanently blocked
I contacted the walmart manager. Even she agreed that she asked me way too many questions and those questions are for senders not receivers. What a nasty employee. What did i do wrong? I never showed attitude and was patient and didnt even say anything when she threw my phone on the counter. Nothing worse than her punishing me for her own bad...
