Saw there was a lot of traffic heading home today so we decided to have dinner somewhere in Pearl City. We were actually planning to go to Ramen Ya across the street at Pearl City Gateway, but then remembered there was a Panda Express across the way and opted for there, since I hadn't eaten at Panda's in a while. But when we parked we saw there was Daiichi Ramen and remembered just a few nights ago it poped up while we were hanging with friends looking for a place to eat. Ultimately that time with friends we ended up going to Zippys so this time we decided it was worth a shot and ended up trying something new.
When we walked in it was fairly busy with all but two of their tables occupied. We were seated near the back of the restaurant which some people don't like but I prefer since it's out of the way. When we finally decided on what we wanted my partner had the Special Combo with the mini ramen, mini curry, and chicken katsu, and I had the regular mochiko chicken curry. My order took a bit longer to come out than the rest of our items but everything was delicious once they came out, and portion size was fairly large.
Overall the atmosphere, service, and food were all very good. Service was attentive yet not overbearing, the ambiance was comfortably busy without being too noisy, and the food was just as satisfying as I was hoping it would be. I would certainly...
Read moreThis is the Pearl City location that is located by Walmart (not to be confused with another daiichi that is about 10 minutes away). The only thing that's difficult is finding nearby parking sometimes because there are a number of eateries within the same strip mall, but it's worth the visit and parking in the Walmart lot is close enough.
My family loves the combination options which offer a good variety of choices so everyone orders their own favorites, but can also share if someone has difficulty choosing. For about $10, an order of ramen or udon AND something else (curry rice, fried rice, gyoza, chicken katsu, and more) can be very filling that a lot of times there could be left overs to take home. Even the Keiki (kids) curry rice is a very generous serving. The food comes FAST and service is always friendly and swift. Our water cups are never empty, leftovers are packed for us, and the kids love picking one of the little lollipop treats from the bowl near the cash register.
Favorites for my family are the tonkotsu ramen, and for a couple dollars more you can order more pork char siu for a fuller meal. Another favorite is the cold noodles but instead of the ramen noodles, we ask to switch out for the green...
Read moreSo funny story. Our friends was in town for a visit. We decided we wanted to grab a late dinner did a quick search and this spot came up. I'll start with the funny. Serving sizes here are rather tractors, even for a "mini". The combo is seriously a great bang for your buck! When we were done, our friend was like "I don't know how they can call any of those servings mini, they were so big?!" We're standing outside, chewing the fat all stuffed and I look asst the sign and say it "Daiichi". Well our friend speaks Japanese and starts cracking up!! We all him "what's so funny?" He replies "Dude! Daiichi means "big one" in Japanese! No wonder the mini was so big?!!" BWAA HAA HA
But for reals, the serving sizes are big for the price! Curry was build and flavorful. Mockup chicken was crispy and tasty too. Didn't try the soup but our friend said it to was good and also rather large for a mini.
Plenty parking because it's in a strip mall. Device was fast and friendly....
