Was at this hospital with a family member and she was admitted into the hospital 2 days after being discharged they re admitted her with pnuemonia, she is an older woman with horrible COPD. They sent her home on oxygen as well so they knew she was not well and did not have her breathing under control yet they still sent her home.
Once they admitted her with pnuemonia, they put her back on oxygen and put a humidifier to help not dry her out with the oxygen, the day nurses were TERRIBLE, coming from a family of medical professionals I have never seen anything like it. We were there for 4 hours and they hadn't checked her vitals one time, she has multiple episodes of not being able to breath and they took 20 minutes minimum to come in once the call light was pressed, they did have her on continues monitoring even though they knew her oxygen levels were dropping well below the 60s. Once we told the nurse they needed to do something she said ok and walked out did not apologize or do anything, the tech was also TERRIBLE she came in after we complained about no one taking vitals for over 4 hours and took vitals, for one she took a blood pressure that simply did not make sense we called her out on it she did a retake it still did not make sense so we asked her to manually take the blood pressure so we could get an accurate reading she said she would come back in in just a second she needed to get stuff and take it, so as she was taking the vital she took her oxygen level and temp all sounds great. Well she leaves the room and I walk past the computer and she left the patient medical chart up....NOT OKAY as I looked I saw that she LIED on the chart and put down that the patients oxygen was at a 90 and it never went over 88, and she never even came back to take the manual blood pressure.
Time went on, and it was time for her medicine, the nurse didn't take vitals she just went ahead and gave her medicine for blood pressure, pain, etc. As medical professionals sitting in the room we wondered why this nurse would give BP meds when she didn't even know what the patients BP was reading as.
We went to the nurses station after finally having enough and told her all of the issues and about the tech lieing on the patients chart and the tech poked her head out the of room and basically in short terms called us all liars.
All in all, I could go on and on and on this is a terrible hospital and we are currently working on getting the patient transferred out of there because the care has been HORRIBLE I would not take my pet here after...
Read moreIf you have the choice, go anywhere else for treatment!!! Seriously. This place and the staff we have had contact with are a joke. They could care less about their patients, and are only concerned about the social hour at the nurses' station. Pre-Covid, when my husband was there, no one came to when he pushed the "help" button. When I walked out of his room, I noticed at least 5-7 nurses were at the nurses' station laughing and having a grand old time. It was only when I confronted them with a stern voice, did a nurse leave the desk and check on my husband.
I am writing this review now on account of my father-in-law's unfortunate stay there. After testing positive for a extreme case of Covid, the urgent care called an ambulance and they transported him to Progress West (unfortunately). They immediately put him on oxygen and told his sons that they could not see him. At the time, we understood that he couldn't have visitors because he was positive with Covid. During his now almost 3 week stay, my father-in-law has fluctuated from needing 11 liters to 4 liters and has told the staff he would like to leave the hospital. When one of his son's called to inquire today as to why he still isn't allowed visitors and/or why he still hasn't been released with oxygen, the nurse was very rude and stated that if he gets down to 6 liters he can have 1 visitor a day (he jumped back up to 11 liters last night) and if he walks they won't give him oxygen or the medicine he needs. My question is that if the man was already down to 4 liters at one point, why wasn't my father-in-law or his sons notified that he could have visitors?!
Since Progress West is affiliated with BJC, I checked the BJC visitor policy and wouldn't you know it, it states "confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients in inpatient and ICU settings may have 1 designated visitor during their entire stay." So, my father-in-law could have benefited from having his family there THIS WHOLE TIME, especially after he stopped being contagious, and the nurses just kept lying to his sons over the phone. This place is terrible and deserve any bad reviews they get. Now, we will be handling this through the hospital administrator and the...
Read moreOne of my doctors is located in the medical building at Progress West and uses the hospital for all needs including surgery. That is how I ended up here for a recent surgery. This review is based solely on my surgery experience.
Prior to surgery I received 2 calls the week of and both were friendly and informative - very helpful and very patient employees.
Upon arrival I followed the direction to the pre-op area. I checked in which was very easy and the guest with me received a guest tag to accompany me.
I was very quickly taken to a pre-op room where the nurse explained how we would prep and that the Dr would then come in. After we prepped my guest was allowed to come back until they were ready for me to go to surgery.
Surgery was completed as expected, no outliers and my guests were notified. I woke up from anesthesia back in my pre-op room. This wasn't my favorite part... I was groggy and nauseous and it was so loud and busy all around it was a bit overwhelming.
Once I was stable they moved me to an overnight room. The room was large and very quiet with the door pulled up. The nurses were all informative and had great bed side manner. They assisted as needed but also encouraged me to do things that I could myself. They showed me how to call for help if it was needed and explained exactly what I should expect overnight.
Overall as far as a surgery experience goes, this was amazing. I was always in the loop, someone was there anytime I needed help but outside of that they didn't bother me every hour. I was actually able to rest.
The only downside to my experience here was the food is TERRIBLE. I wasn't on a restricted diet so I could order anything. I did. It was all terrible. Even the toast was cold and like chewy... Hopefully you won't need to eat much here. That said I didn't really eat much food which concerned the nurse so she did advise that they had a fridge with food for patients too and she brought me a turkey sandwich and a pudding which was pretty good. I was able to eat it so yay. However, Hubby ate in the cafeteria one morning - he got a breakfast burrito and said it was good. So the cafeteria and patient food may...
