This review has been long overdue and my patience has been take advantage of as I have been using Peoples Barber shop on and off with multiple locations. This specific Oakland location brings me in because of how awesome Toni is and how much care they put into their cuts. Unfortunately I canāt say the same for the manager on duty who does not know how to approach a situation in a professional manner. I was unaware of needing to provide proof of VAX for a beard trim which was no issue to provide. This should have been asked of me during check in which they did not. The manager on duty thought accusing me of not knowing how to book appropriately was their route. When I re-booked my shift I showed them it doesnāt ask for me to upload a vax verification. The manager asked to see my card while getting prepped for the cut. As I show it they accuse me of it not being me as I use my nick name to book the haircut. So I was sitting in confusion what the issue was vs telling me the names donāt match up or if I can provide them with my full name. After sitting in the chair confused what the issue was the manager made the decision rest on the barber which made me feel very uncomfortable because I didnāt know what the process was nor if they were okay with doing a beard trim. I was following their process which they clearly have not established yet since I re-booked an appointment to show their website does not ask to provide it otherwise I would have. After my cut I was happy to pay for it as Toni always leaves me looking great. Canāt have managers in an establishment like this talking to customers and accusing them as he had. The system has a break and the customer should not get the blowback to this. I should have been asked at check in and the assumption of me using a different name couldāve been cleared had they simply asked me what my real full name is. This situation happened Saturday morning on my 1/15 for those reading this on the Peoples end. Paying $100 for a cut and being treated like this by the manager was insulting. Only reason I stayed and paid for my cut is because of my great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe People's Barber? Right...if your people are tech bros, hipsters or hills moms bringing their kids in for $$$$ cuts. The stylists/barbers seem fine, but you can get the same cut and support a small locally owned shop for better service and price.
I used to treat my kid to an occasional cut here back when Luis used to work here and the prices were better. He was great! He listened, asked questions and just seemed genuine. He was such a light that I was able to see through the dense fog of insufferable hipster pretension that fills this space.
I took my kid in a couple days back. An appointment was coldly made. I had to redirect the stylist several times and he almost left my kid with this weird mullet like thing that looked nothing like the pic I showed. Sure, the texture of my kid's hair is different from the pic, but he didn't ask any questions or point out how that could be problematic (and to be real, the cut could have been possible ). Then we opted for a shorter cut. The stylist was responsive and I could tell that he wanted us to be happy. He seemed to rush through and he took 40 minutes from start to finish including the redos. Finally we checked out with an acceptable cut that my kid was happy with.
When I go to check out, it turns out that this all comes out to a full price adult haircut! This didn't seem right. Still, I paid and tipped the full amount. When I came home and looked at the website, the full haircut was supposed to come with shampoo/condition, beverage, hot towel and all the usual stuff that everyone else who paid full price get. My kid didn't get no organic juice, and mama wasn't offered any whiskey. What we got was an average kid's cut. I would love for the price to be adjusted so that's what I pay, stylist can keep the full tip amount because I'm not even sure that he knew it wasn't a kid's cut. I called and asked for that, and they offered to give me five freaking dollars. So now, I will rage post this review everywhere and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFive star for the actual barber experience itself. Rashell " hope I spelt it right " is the best for someone who is real picky about there face. She doesn't ever cut you and always trims you to the T. Best beard Line up. BUT THE PRICE IS WAY TOO HIGH. āāāāā for my barber. 1/4th of A ā for the receptionist. Talk about unprofessionalism to the fullest in every aspect of your job at it's worst. This person unfortunately is the reason that needs a lot of Improving. One of the girls who works there has a horrible demeanor towards me whenever I come in for absolutely no reason. I am a reasonable man who knows when someone is being disresepectful and every time i came in there seem to be some type of issue with this person even after I myself had been really nice to everyone I encountered from when i first went in there to my last visit.I was told this person only worked there because there "boyfriend" was the Manager . Regardless of the fact I was very much mistreated as a frequent customer by this same individual to the point where I will not return. It is unfortunate to see places like this in Oakland who have good people for what you need ..but not good people on there staff for what you don't..You work at a barber shop.. please leave your personal agenda's at home and be professional aka know your...
