Humphry Slocombe — Restaurant in Oakland

We love HS’s ice cream and this 1-star review is entirely for the lack of service at this location tonight. We approached, looked at the menu, excited for the new flavors (I got HS’s newsletter about them this afternoon!) and waited for the woman to turn around to help us. No acknowledgment. So I said “Hello?” And she does not turn around. I’m puzzled. Does she have earbuds in both ears? So I practically screamed to get her attention, at which point, she turned around, looked at us, mumbled something, and turned back to cleaning the counter. Seriously? We watched her clean for another 20 seconds and decided to go to Miharu instead. Apparently this happened to my partner the last time he came, too.

Am I trying to get her fired? Maybe. But this really is a management issue. Train better or you will lose business. And there was no line tonight to say she was busy. That back counter better...

I was prepared to be underwhelmed by Humphry Slocombe because there's a lot of hype here...happily my doubts were obliterated. This is adult ice cream at its very best. The Secret Cereal ice cream isn't at all what I thought it would be...and it was delicious. I had the Secret S'more Sundae. It featured that ice cream, a coating of graham cracker crumbs, hot fudge and a roasted marshmallow smashed on the top. How this confection replicated a S'more so closely, I have no idea. But it was truly, magically, delicious. My husband had the Dark Chocolate and Salt and a scoop of Harvey Milk & Honey Graham. He enjoyed the not too sweetness of the treat. This is a food truck in a courtyard - there is plenty of seating. Street parking here is...

Yay! Been on ice cream and gelato mode since spring kicked in!

I have always seen this place when heading to Drake's but had never stopped to try their flavors. I was randomly in the area on Monday (picking up bread from Firebrand nearby) and decided to try it out - so glad I did :)

I had a single scoop of Milk Chocolate (I really wish they had dark though) in a cup and loved it. It was rich and delicious. Probably should have shared it as it was a very big scoop - can't believe some people think this is a small scoop :O . Compared to Lush gelato and Firenze gelato this was pretty big! I mean, it's not a meal, it's dessert - hello!!!

Would definitely return to try out...
