Mercy Cancer Center has an ABLEIST attitude. I had a mammogram scheduled for a Monday and Mercy calls me on Saturday to reschedule for later in the day, fine I accepted the new time and was assured on the phone that I would be seen at my rescheduled time. I get there and upon checking in I am NOT told that they are several HOURS behind and that my wait will be long. After an hour of sitting in extreme pain because I am disabled I inquire at the desk to only be told it will still be more than an hour longer. The fact that your employees acted like it was no big deal to sit and wait shows that they have an ABLEIST mindset. Not everyone can sit in a chair for hours and hours, I would love to have that ability again but I don't. I had to cancel and leave without being seen. It took me three days to recover physically from this outing and normally I can cope with the extra pain in order to see my doctors but this outing was for nothing; and having to spend three days recovering knowing I have to still get seen is unbelievably frustrating. Disabled people are still people and we deserve access to health care just as much as anyone else. EDIT: Great Social Media 101 response. But honestly why would I give you a SIXTH chance to do the right thing? 1st chance, when you called why was it not scheduled for a different day? 2nd chance, you open day of-problem still exists-why did you not start making calls? 3rd chance - you had an opportunity by this time to realize the situation you were in and how backed up you were, why was I not called even an hour before my appointment. 4th chance, why was I not told upon checking in that my wait would be more then two hours. 5th chance, maybe teach your staff that their first assumption shouldn't be that you are impatient about the wait and have a flippant attitude about sitting and waiting to be called. Also called my primary (who is a Mercy doc) and asked him to refer me somewhere other then Mercy, and who calls to schedule me? LOL yep Mercy so now I am being denied access to healthcare because I want to be treated with dignity and given...

My profession doesn’t have me working with cancer patients, but I can assure you I’d be more compassionate and kind than the staff at Mercy.
Aside from the initial imaging professionals and radiologist, I can’t recommend one person worth visiting at Coletta. There seems to be some sort of toxicity among the staff needing a big reminder of how to correspond with patients. Being cold, argumentative, unhelpful, and disrespectful is 100% the wrong way to go about relationships...
Read moreBeing new to the cancer diagnosis, Dr Shomas assured me that the ONLY side effects would be short of breath for a couple of months. Boy, did he lie through his teeth! After my three treatments concluded, I was more short of breath. BUT, the Pinpoint Radiation also damaged two heart valves AND has damaged the nerves in my right breast. The treatment was for ONE lung tumor on my right side. Now I hurt constantly and have to have open heart surgery, along with having more medication. I will NEVER...
