This was an interesting place. From what I've gathered, the basic idea is that they buy things by the pallet & resell them mostly by dumping them out into shallow tables or they'll also sell random stuff by the pallet. I'm not sure if these are returns or things that didn't sell or both.
The store is open Friday-Wednesday & is closed on Thursdays to restock. For the individual items, they start at $5 each on Fridays. Saturdays are $4, Sundays $3 & so on until you reach Wednesday where everything is $0.50. The catch is that stuff is not being restocked during the week, so if you want the best selection of new stuff, go on Friday, but if you want the cheapest (& most picked over) selection of stuff, go on Wednesday.
There was an employee collecting trash that people had left on the shallow tables/bins when they opened packages. It was reasonably busy when we went on Tuesday.
All of the employees we encountered were nice, and our cashier was especially kind. Most of the customers were decent, but some ladies were super pushy. You have to be willing to either be pushed around or politely stand your ground.
There are a few areas in the store where it was generally organized...appliances, small furniture pieces, a few shelves at the front with dishes, etc. & clothing. Beyond those areas, though, the bulk of the store is made up of the large shallow bins where everything is just dumped in loose.
It looked like most things that we saw were from Amazon, though we did see some packages from Sam's Club.
We were told that they post information on what is being put out on social media, so you can decide if you'd like to take a chance on a better selection & a bigger crowd or wait for a few days.
Also, you'll be digging through shallow bins, so leave any extraneous stuff at home & wear comfortable clothes & shoes that you don't mind getting a little dusty. If digging for treasures in random piles of disorganized stuff is not appealing to you, then you probably won't enjoy this store.
All in all, it was an interesting afternoon (my daughter was not a fan, but she found a book on one of the first tables & read the entire thing as we made our way around the store). It took us several hours to paw through all the tables, but we'll come another time... when we have plenty of...
Read moreIf you're curious about the Metromerch experience, come EARLY FRIDAY. I've been going here for a little over a year and its been a blessing. You can expect to find overstock from Target, Amazon, Sams and Costco. I havent paid full price for starbucks kpods ever since coming here.
My only gripes are directed at the entitled and the resellers. On various occasions I've had multiple items snatched directly from my hands by very rude customers who give me attitude over their own actions. With resellers they will consantly cut in line with groups of 5+ and block lanes with buggies while filling them beyond the top some of them even steal.
My advice is to come atleast 30 minutes early, skip carts and grab a bag, if you see an interesting item, grab it, and look at your haul after filling a bag.
Since you've scrolled this far, some treasures I've found include: coffee, chips, clothes, jackets, protein powder/bars among many more. When I first came there were better finds like massage guns, name-brand controllers, apple watches, tents, dremels, computer parts but finds like these have since become marked items because of customer culture. I cant list the amount of empty boxes I've grabbed because someone...
